Title: Smitty Sled
Post by: handymanjeff on December 11, 2016, 03:03:14 PM
With Mother Nature intent on dumping a bunch of snow on top of the ice; decided to make a smitty sled to make it easier to drag my Clam Kenai Pro. Wants to snowplow in deeper snow. This should make it a lot easier. ;D

Long pull rope attached to a deer pulling harness makes it a breeze to pull a shanty. Saves the hands and shoulders.

I've got a long pull strap and Clam harness for it. Just didn't have it attached in picture. Bumper guard on front to keep from ramming back of ATV  when I use it.

Nice looking I made a couple but they are a little taller. Mine are just tall enough to set on if I'm traveling light.

Jeff, will you sit on the sled as-is or take the sled off the smitty sled?i imagine the. Cover won't touch the ground with it on the smutty sled?

Can't speak for Jeff but mine will have to be removed. I put tie off loops on mine so I can put either a sled or shanty on mine. Also put straps across the middle and put a tub on one side, for holding buckets or other equipment.

The set up in the pic is just tall enough that I can sit on comfortably with out removing and can lift t the back up for a wind break. Doesn't quite touch when down on the sled. I have hooks on the sides to strap down when being pulled with my atv but the center supports are actually lower than the outside frame and line up with grooves in the bottom of the tub. No straps needed when pulling by hand. The new tub design on the Clam Kenai Pro Thermal is nice for storage but sure wants to snowplow when there is a few inches of snow on the ice.

... Made a Smitty last season (2017-2018) and absolutely loved it.  It made pulling my Clam Nanook sooooo much easier.  When the snow's are deep, I'll certainly be using it.  Well worth the time, effort & money to have one.
