Title: Attention: Guests
Post by: slabslayer on January 26, 2011, 03:54:26 PM
Welcome to the site.  Glad you're here.  Maybe I'm out of line here, but I've talked with other members and have noticed many guests trolling for information and hotspots.  While we are happy you've found our site, we want new members to join everyday and post, post, post your reports; not only log-on, read ours, and go out and clean-up.  We are happy to provide the info here on icefishohio.com, we all share a passion for ice fishing. But please create an account, share in the posting (you don't have to give away your spot), just tell lake, species, depth, ice thickness and quality, and so forth.  Also print out an entry form and try the online tournaments, they're a blast.  Best of all it's all free.  Hope not to have offended anyone, sorry if I did.  Just want all involved to get the most out of our site!

Great points slabslayer. I've gotten quite a few emails about locations.

I'm glad to give info on lures, ice conditions, waterdepth, and time of day. But to give specific information compromises locals who get out and hunt for these fish. If you talk to me on the ice I'll be glad to help you out.

If you tell one person you'll have 40 in that spot the next day.

Black hawk is a perfect example from last year!

It went from a handful of guys, to the internet, then 50 guys on the weekends.

I'm glad the bite has been off this year, you really gotta go hunt for them. There still out there, just not in all the traditional spots from last year.

Plus I believe numbers are down a littlebit from the last couple of years.

Good luck to everyone.

God bless all the fishermen and women.

That's very true.  Fish not cooperating like last year.  I thought was just me, because I've not got out as much with work and a stitches-requiring hand injury this year.  Have had to scratch and claw.  Got some nice fish, and some good meals, but having to be a lot more mobile to get the bigger fish.  Thank goodness for gas augers. :)  Hoping the bite will turn on end of Feb-very early March.

i Agree Joel.. learned over the yrs.. that sometimes you just gotta keep those pictures in your phone and avoid the text wildfire.. I had to use ketchup to detour fish hawks from some of the spots i fished last yr.. it got so bad that i refused to go back..Its a shame! someone sees you gaff a 8lber and the next day you cant even get close to your own holes! grrrrr...

I met 5 people today at Indian lake who hadn't yet checked out the site. I think trolling for information on our site is welcome as it is the only way to get word out..trust me once they have a question one of us can answer they will join.

Hello to all,
I would like to say thanks for the awesome site and introduce my self.
I'm 31 year old avide outdoorsman (fishing all year, hunting, golfing, mushrooming, beerbdrinking American man.) 2 kids and  wife of 6 years that has a heart of gold. I got my 3 yr old daughter on the ice for the first time today. I'll post pics soon.
That being said, I wish I would've found this site sooner.
I fish all public water ways in Lorain county.
How do post on a lake that hasnt been previously posted on?
It is the only lake in LC that is fishable at this point.
Not all of us can get to pymatuming.
Please help and thanks.

Welcome, glad you're here.  To add a lake, PM David Hoheisiel, he can add it.  Until it's added, just post your report under general discussion. :)

Heading to preble county this weekend after perch. Then probably back to indain lake. Thanks for this site, it gives us guys that live farther south and idea on where to go without wasting  time, gas, money to drive some pkace . Hope to meet some of you on the ice before its gone.

You know SS. I have met quite a few of the central Ohio guys on the ice at Alum and they pretty much never post, and they are the sites originators ???. BTW, Alums been handing it to me this year. But all she's doing is peeing me off and I'm going to open a can on her one of these days. Then I'll post.... with pictures. :o

I'm  wanting to fish the western islands area of lake erie , looking for a guide or a means of transportation  out to a good area . I have equipment I've  used on local farm ponds but I've  never been on the big lake when it's frozen. Does anyone have a contact for me ? I've  been all over the Internet  but not having  any luck . I've  wondered about flying  out to south bass but I've  yet to find any info once I'd  get there.  I've  been told there's  a foot of snow which would make walking  2 to 5 miles pretty difficult . I'd  appreciate  any advice !

Try looking under Lake Erie section towards the bottom.

I used Reel Sport Charters a while back and they did OK as far as a ride out to the fishing area.  I had all my own gear, just no way to get out to the fishing area.  I have seen some not-so savory reports on them and they may not be doing taxi rides out.  I found them on facebook or you can call 419-265-2736.

Islands area requires a plane ride and I don't imagine they will let you load a shanty.  If you are going that way, you might as well stay overnight and fish a couple days.

This is my first time on the site and I decided to join.   I fish almost every day since I retired in July.  In the last week I fished Indian, Kiser, Buckeye and C.J. Brown reservoir.  It's been real slow lately.  Not sure what the problem is. I will be glad to let everyone know if the bite is on at a particular lake.

Hello,
I’m new here and have had an interest in ice fishing for quite some time. I love the shanty community and the commardre that ensues. I do have a question where do you find out how deep ice is on Ohio lakes?
Title: Re: Attention: Guests
Post by: slabslayer on January 30, 2019, 09:51:16 AM
You can check here under specific lakes.  Most guys will post thicknesses, but for safety always check your own ice with a spud.  And if you’re looking for a specific lake or day post a message and someone will probably be going too.
