Title: Water is way up
Post by: slabslayer on December 07, 2011, 06:26:11 AM
Went for a drive yesterday and checked out some of my favorite lakes.  Berlin is way up.  Normally the southern end is just a tiny channel, but now it has water deep enough to launch a boat off the Price road gravel ramp.  Should be back down soon.  Hope it's lowered fully before it starts to freeze, don't want any air gaps!

Looks like 2012 this year, the lake is falling slowly, no more rain and come on cold temps

Drove by yesterday and water is still higher than normal.  Rain not helping us today either.  Also very muddy!!  Starting to get concerned about Berlin this year.  Probably unwarrented, in a couple weeks will be fine.  Just really want to start jigging for some eyes!! ;D ;D

We will get on the hard stuff this year. Its still December.  Most ice seasons start in January anyway.  We all got spoiled the last few seasons which started very early in some cases.  2 winters ago I was on Dec. 7 and the following weekend at Mog.  Then a thaw came and it started all over.  4 or 5 years back, I didn't get on Erie till the last day in Feb.  The ice was s..t and didn't get a bite, but still got out, and in, safely.  At least we won't have the thaw that seems to happen after a few weeks of fishing.  Berlin will fish this winter for sure.  Lots of time left.

Looking at the long term forecast, I'm getting more confident.  Sunday's still going to be in the 40's, but after that the next 3 days are going to be below freezing all day.  Hope that continues into the next forecast period.

No I haven't.  I'd forgotten about that.  I fished what they planted on Deer Creek, but forgot about Berlin.  Normally I try the roadbed, but if you have the gps location, I'd love to try it, if you don't mind sharing the spot with me for a little while.

joel i got a lot of different colors, a few different blues, few greens, yellows, and a couple pinks, couple golds, silvers, high gloss, translucents, etc. there is a very extensive list of colors and types. take a look at it, the 2oz bottles work just fine although i id order some bigger sizes on some things i know i would use. having trouble finding a hott pink that i want... colombiacoatings.com  pretty decent collection and at half the price of a tackle store that would sell the powder paints. im really considering some new colors and designs.. i would like to find a guy who does photo finishes.. i can see that being a very very deadly on walleye. as most of the walleye im getting im not ripping but simply doing a "flyby" approach...actually fishing and finessing a vibee rather than rippin or jerkin or jukin as some do. its unreal. We'll have to get out this yr. and ill show ya a few of the techniques i use. they produce very well.. somethin else to add to your arsenal when your out fishing with them. i lost your number. pm me and ill get your number from ya

Sounds good.  Love to get out together and add some new walleye techniques to the arsonal.  Thanks for the website for the paints.  I can't find a good hot pink either!  >:(  Anyone out there able to help???

Thanks, I'll check it out.  Do you know if they have glow also?  I'm experimenting with it and am not happy with my results.

There white glows awsome and the orange is almost as good. the darker green powder paint sucks though. I was disapointed with the green but I will buy more white and orange powder paint when I run out.

I was wrong.  Big time.  Sucks, but what are you going to do. Pulling the boat out on Saturday for some trailer work.  Anybody know the current water levels out there?

Berlin is around 4 ft below summer pool.

I take it that the water is also very dirty?  Would love to get out on Sunday if the wind is favorable.  It would be a real shame if I didn't have to wear my knee highs to launch. LOL!  If its nice on Sunday I'm stopping by Chuck.

Title: Re: Water is way up

They are pretty simple.  I wish I had the time and extra money and I'd build one.  You could fish all year with one.  If the ice was thin just drill off the side.  I think it would eventually pay for itself, just I have no place to store one. :-\

Back to seriousness, what is the water level there now?  Have a tourney soon and am curious.  It's a 45 minute drive for me and I don't want to drive just to look at water.  ;D

Does this mean our fabulous dnr will be "borrowing" the eggs?!!
Title: Re: Water is way up
Post by: slabslayer on March 27, 2013, 02:44:33 PM
Thanks, Chuck!  That's what I wanted to hear.  I hope the ODNR leaves the fish alone.  Leave Berlin to do its thing.
Title: Re: Water is way up
Post by: snowcone on March 27, 2013, 09:17:44 PM
berlin has alot of structure and plenty of gravel bottom, if the dnr would keep the water level stable it would have a chance to grow into a good fishery , just my thought  ;D

I agree.  The winter drawdown is stupid.  I know why they do it, but it kills the fishing.
