General Discussion / Re: Roll call Amigos!

Haha, i could see the ban hammer coming over there.  If i have learned anything, it is that you just don't question the mods decisions publicly.  I was permanently banned from a certain crappie fishing site that way. Their site, their rules.

Good luck fishing.  Stuck working tomorrow but at least going to check on a reservoir close to home on Sunday to see how bad the shore got.  I keep laughing at all these guys saying they will be getting their boats out next weekend.  Have a feeling what ice we have is going to take a little while to go away.

General Discussion / Re: IFO Website Activity

I think Facebook has a lot to do with it as well.  I have seen a general slow down on a couple different forum sites i am a member of as well as one i run myself.
Forums, in general, look clunky and outdated to the younger generation.  It takes a different mindset to keep track with the forums but anyone can scroll away through Facebook. It is just a lot more simple and convenient for many to use.  I get on and look at it, but rarely post there.    I also agree that forums in general tend to be more of a community feel than FB.  I've met up with 10 or 12 different people now from forums........ never met up with someone i talked with on FB.  My 15 year old daughter still reads me the riot act every time i say i am meeting up with some guy i met on the internet. haha

I've been on IFO 4 or 5 years now and only have a handful of posts.  Biggest reason is that members from the NW are few and far between.  Either that or the NW members just don't talk much because of the limited fishing areas?

General Discussion / Re: Upground been good to me

Good job Ketchum!  A 26" saugeye is a monster.  Some upgrounds are more complicated than others to say the least.  If you are getting saugeye, i might be able to guess which one you are fishing if you are staying somewhat close to home.  I have never made it that far East but keep thinking i need to try it.  Still trying to decide where i am going to fish this weekend.  I am hoping to get out tonight to try Willard for walleye after dark.  Could be interesting.

Willard Reservoir / Re: Any reports?

I saw some talk about the edges and ramp area opened up (word was 6' out) with the warm up last week.  Probably going to try to get back up there this weekend.  I am assuming the main ice is still good but not sure if you can cross the edges yet?  Would love to hear if anyone makes it up. -: Russ

I consider myself in the NW, but not quite as NW as you.  I was out on Sunday to Willard and it was a breeze to drag my flip sled.  Maybe .5" of snow on top and smooth ice on the pressure cracks.  Got the day off on Monday and decided to stay close to home and hit the Attica Res.  It had 2" of snow and 2" of water on top the ice.......... damn near killed me dragging my gear from one end to the other.  haha

I do agree, these next couple days are going to change the ice significantly.  I am just hoping not much damage is done and then it STAYS good and cold.  Fingers crossed.

I fished it on Sunday afternoon.  Lots of 4" perch and some 6" walleye.  Did manage a 15" walleye.

Willard Reservoir / Re: 12/28/2017 Anyone know how the ice is coming along?
« on: December 29, 2017, 12:33:03 PM »
Not sure if i would categorize it as 'good'.... a pain in the a$$ comes to mind first.  Don't get me wrong, there are good fish in there, it is just tough to fish in my personal experience.  Very Very clear water and the weeds are all but gone from how they used to be in the past.  Doesn't mean i won't give it a try again though.  The bluegill and walleye get very large in there. Used to get decent perch as well, but i have not had much luck with them the past few years during any season.

I have not heard anything about the ice yet.  I need to run over to Willard on Saturday afternoon and probably will at least do a drive by of the res to take a look.

2nd hand report so take it with a grain of salt. Heard the smaller reservoirs were close but the 2 bigger ones were not.

For comparison, i checked on Bellevue #4 (averages about 10' deep) yesterday and did not like it enough to venture out alone.  It had 4" total, but the top 2" were just frozen slush.

G - I've only fished the big one through the ice a couple times, but did get a few perch there.  Too bad they were all about 6".  Has to be bigger ones in there though.  Used to fish Riley during open water fairly often and always caught some nice bluegill with decent crappie there.

Hey Ketchum.  Glad to see someone else from my general area.  I fish Willard a lot during the spring and fall...... gets too busy for my liking in the summer.  There are still plenty of walleye in there and some giants, they are picky as heck though.  Last years big fish for me was 27".  ;) The perch, no clue what happened to them.  I have honestly not caught a perch in there for the last 3 years.  Before that, i could bring home 6 to 12 in a trip just casting from shore.  Never had much luck there through the ice, but also have not hit it very hard to learn it through the ice either.  Hoping to hit it up after dark this year (if the ice allows) and see if i can find one or 2 walleye.  I will probably be up checking Bellevue out this weekend.  Maybe we can meet up and fish sometime on the ice.

I am not quite as far up as you Tkfurs,  Hometown is Attica, but get around the counties around me as well.  Regularly fish Resthaven, Bellevue, Clyde, Green Springs, Bucyrus, New Washington, Willard, and anything in between.  Fish a couple places up in West Harbor off the docks when the ice is still iffy as well.

I will admit, i am one who shows up here once it starts looking like the ice will give us a chance.  I am in the NW as well and do not have a lot of options other than small city reservoirs close to home.  Most everything else is over an hour away.  Not a lot of ice fishing activity in this area either unless you are heading up to East Harbor or Whites Landing.  I think i am the only one to cut holes in my hometown reservoir most years.  Lets hope we get a good season!

I would be up for a trip there.  Honestly, never have fished it and always have talked about it each year.  Just never seem to get the chance to make it.  If you set a day for a group (or just you planning to go) PM me here or over on OGF so i get an email notice.  Thanks!  Looking forward to a longer season than last year. -: Russ

Thanks for the update!  Weather looks promising to build some ice... hope to get out there this year a time or 2.

I fish just about anywhere in the Sandusky river watershed area..... so pretty much all up-ground reservoirs.  Willard, Monroeville(actually Huron watershed), N.Washington, Bucyrus, Attica, Bellevue, Clyde, Greensprings and a few other small ponds.  Hit Erie and West Harbor every once in a while as well.

Thanks for the welcomes.
