Indian Lake / Ice spud
« on: February 06, 2018, 09:10:35 PM »
Due to bring laid off in the winter I need to find things to keep me busy so I decided to buy my own welder to make a few things. I'm going to make a some spud bars but I would like some input on what exactly people would want as far as weight and chisel design. If anyone has something they'd like made just let me know. I've started welding some horseshoe wine bottle racks up and women love these things. Just trying to make a few bucks and make some quality items for people the way they want them made.

I plan on going out. Some of us don't work in the winter lol. Did pretty good the other day on crappies but the bite was perch-like. Caught some pigs but lost more than I put in the bucket. Color didn't seem to matter but I ended up going really small on jigs.

Some people have nothing better to do than to bother people who aren't bothering them.

I saw a post the other day that they're enforcing the no parking there. Sucks because it's a hell of a walk when you have to park elsewhere.

Grand Lake St. Marys / Ice report 12-26
« on: December 26, 2017, 07:40:33 PM »
The only place I checked was Anderson's and both channels had pretty safe ice with the front having about 4" and the back was close to 3". Ice didn't make a noise anywhere I walked. Saw a couple crappies caught but I only managed a couple small gills in the short time I fished.

I've never had a problem on 2". It's sketchy but I've never felt unsafe on that much ice and I've fished on less which was dumb lol. 3" is plenty unless you're like 800 pounds. Be safe everyone.

Which channel did you fish? I don't know why the crappies disappear when the ice is on. I caught a few keepers the other day through the ice and that's a first for me on this lake. Yesterday the entire bottom would light up on my flasher but nothing would bite. Can't say if the marks were anything worth catching but it was lit up like a Xmas tree. I didn't see anyone fishing the channel until the day after someone saw me get a couple keepers there. Yesterday there were 7 cars parked there. I didn't get any keepers yesterday but had been actually getting keeper sized gills and that's also a first for me on this lake. Hitting Indian Lake this morning. I

Ice should be safe by Sunday. I took a few steps out on the ice by Pony today before it spider webbed. I'll more than likely try it Saturday morning. It's getting real cold and will make ice fast.

Yeah I've been fishing but not catching. I can only get out in the morning and the channels are skimmed over.

Most channels have a skim on them. Front channel at Andersons is safe enough to drill holes on but over at sunnyside it's all open. Haven't been to Indian yet.

I've still got loads of that from spring and fall. It'd be nice if it was perch or walleye.

Indian Lake / 2-1 ice and fish report

Fished between Pony and Long island until 1:30 today. Ice is definitely getting to where even I won't go out again. Got some nice gills, an 11"prego perch and one 9"crappie. Ice didn't make noise on the way out but it didn't sound too good on the way in. Wish I could've stuck around till evening. Looks like I can hopefully get the boat back out by next week.

Indian Lake / Re: Ice condition

There have been a few spots of open water since the ice came on I'm just curious how the area I mentioned was doing. Saturday was seemingly safe and normally another day of warm weather doesn't totally do it in. Last ice is pretty hot sometimes and I don't want to miss it. Possibly dumb on my part but I love being on the ice. Thanks for the update and if I think it looks unsafe from the bank then I doubt I'll venture out. If anyone wants to join me I'll be at Long/Pony island parking area before 6. I'm not crazy about going alone.

I know the ice is deteriorating but I'm hoping to get out tomorrow around Pony and Long Island. Was anyone out today in this area who can say how the ice is?
