Product and Tackle Reviews / First Strike Bite Indicator
« on: January 20, 2017, 02:26:41 PM »
Has anybody seen or used one of these? Just ordered one to try out, neat concept. Maybe get to try it out this year.
I guess shopping online is what we do when there is no ice.

Thanks
Scott

General Discussion / Battery tender
« on: November 13, 2015, 07:52:52 AM »
Just wondering what everyone uses for maintaining their 12v and 6v batteries?
Looking to get one unit that will charge and maintain both 6v and 12v, and one I can leave on battery without worrying about over charging the battery.
Can one of these units be found in a local store (Lowes) or is it something I need to get online?

Thanks

General Discussion / Battery drill attachment for my Nils
« on: November 07, 2015, 11:22:20 AM »
Hey all,
I am looking for a cordless drill adapter for my 6" Nils hand auger.

I saw the one by Strikemaster and was wondering if anyone on here has one for their Nils and how does it workout? Or, if anybody knows of a better and cheaper option that will work on the Nils?

Thanks so much for your help and input. Stay safe and tight lines.

General Discussion / New shanty! whoo hoo!!
« on: March 06, 2015, 05:20:23 PM »
Just picked up my Clam Nanook thermal from Cabelas today.

So excited to put it together and get it ready for next years ice. I have been looking for a 2 man since my 14yo is getting too big, eating me out of house and shanty. The Clam Scout just was too small, nice for one, but small.

Started looking about 3 weeks ago to hopefully get a deal on end of season. No luck until I called a Cabelas in Owatanna Minnesota. They had one and probably the last Nanook thermal available, so I had them ship it to the Cabelas in Dundee Mi. for free shipping. When they were ringing it up I asked if they had an end of season discount and they knocked off $150.

I will be ready for next year since this year has been all work and no play.

Be safe and thanks for letting me live vicariously through your adventures.

General Discussion / Camp Perry lodging
« on: February 16, 2015, 03:58:14 PM »
Not sure if everyone is aware of the lodging facilities at Camp Perry. They have lodging accomodations to sleep anywhere from 1-9 people.
The rates are very reasonable and if you are former or active military you get a discount according to rank.

I found this out the other day when I had a couple of hours to kill between cases in Oregon at the hospital.

I think this would make a great opportunity to stay right on the lake and spend a day or two hitting the walleye.

I am attaching the link for the lodging, if it doesn't go through just go to cplcc.com, for Camp Perry lodging and conf center.

Sorry if this was already posted, but I never seeing any info on this.

Stay safe and hopefully see you on the ice.

Lake Erie / Camp Perry Sat 03/01/2014
« on: March 03, 2014, 02:22:04 PM »
My son 13 and I had a great day Sat. for his first trip on Erie.
Biggest was 10.5 and smallest was 6.2 caught seven and lost two.

5mi. NNW out of Perry in 20ft of water. Buckshot rattle spoon in perch colors tipped with a minnow. Just past the third pressure ridge north.

When the fish showed on the Vex they bit without hesitation.

Best day ever because I shared it with my son.

The walk was well worth it.

General Discussion / Never expected this!

Went out back today after work to see if I could catch some Northern pike and the bass were hammering the 1/2oz. spinnerbait!

Caught 4 in 20 min. and this 23" pig stole the show!

I must be feeding them just right.

Findley State Park / Ice on Findlay 1&2
« on: December 16, 2010, 01:48:46 PM »
There is about 3.5 inches on the big reservoir which is #2, didn't fish this one with only that much ice. It was good clear ice but this was pretty close to boat launch.
Now #1 had 4 inches of clear and I did fish it, but with no success. Didn,t even mark a fish the whole two hours on the Vex.
Have never done good on these two, if anybody knows the tricks to them let me know, I'm only thirty mins. from them and think they have potential.

Ice Fishing Pictures / Decent catch in BG

40 gills, 1 largemouth and 1 whitebass, a little slow at first then they woke up. Not bad for less than 2 hours of fishing in the backyard.
Didn't catch the pike today but they are in there.

This is a pic of my 10 yr old fishing last night for 30 mins. He landed 14 gills and 1 two lb. bass. He loves the Vexilar, it's his newest video game.
Ice was good at 5 inches here in BG.
