Hit the ice for 1st time this year.  Ice was decent with what looked like 4 Inches of white ice on top of 3 inches of clear.
Mostly dink perch with a rare keeper.   Saw 3 other people.  Nice folks. Their catch wasn't any better.
Still looking for a lake that holds quality panfish.

I hope I didn't jinx the season by proactively making my new smitty sled.

Piedmont / Ice conditions
« on: February 17, 2021, 09:06:33 PM »
Fished Piedmont today. Where I fished ( near the dam) , the Ice had about 3 inches of good hard stuff covered with approximately another 4 inches of soft white ice.
I was shooting for saugeye.  No luck.  Coming off the ice I talked to a guy that said he picked up 8 dink crappie. It looked like there may have been open water at the mouth of the marina bay.  Lots of geese, swans, and ducks  were congregating there.

Mosquito Creek Reservoir / Mosquito 02/01

Fished the north end today along the buoy line. 6 to 7 inches of ice.  Like last year there is a tremendous crack in the ice just off of the parking lot.  Getting off the ice this evening was a challenge. The crack was wide for long stretches.  Be careful crossing that thing especially in the dark. We had to walk 100 yards or so south of the parking lot to find a place to cross.

Nimisila / Green Fire Dept. Ice Resue training
« on: February 03, 2016, 07:53:41 PM »
Watched Green training ice rescue today.....ice was less than 2 inches.  I got a real education on how dangerous falling in is.  One young fireman couldn't pull himself out onto to ice even with ice picks.   So I know as old as I am I'd be in real trouble......it was really spooky watching the ice roll like a water bed......

One of the tell tale signs that we're on the caboose of an ice fishing season happened to me yesterday morning.......I walked out of the house to the sound of song birds.  I haven't even begun to get my fill of the hard water. It's time to sharpen the blades up for an end of the season rally.

Nimisila / Nice day on Nimi
« on: February 11, 2015, 08:04:32 AM »
What a jewel Nimi is.......Sat outside the shanty for the first time in ages and got to see several (3) Bald Eagles.  Add a few perch into that and it was quite a day.

Mogadore Reservoir / One rough Sunday Stroll
« on: February 09, 2015, 08:25:41 AM »
Hit the ice on the SR43 side after church yesterday.  I struggled getting anywhere due to the ice conditions.  Although safe, the footing was horrible on account of a thin frozen layer above slush.  Where I ended up I managed a plethora of dinks with a few nice ones thrown in.

Mogadore Reservoir / Large holes
« on: January 28, 2015, 08:34:55 AM »
Be careful out there.  I was heading out on CLR yesterday and went in up to my knee.  I presume it was someone with a spud bar making their holes entirely too big.  That one ended my day before it began.

Fished a couple hours yesterday on SR 43 side. Bite was slow, only caught a few and couldn't stay long. I've met some of the nicest folks out there over the last few time out.  Everyone seems so willing to share, help, ect.  Ice fishing........there is no substitute.

Mogadore Reservoir / CLR 2/13/14
« on: February 14, 2014, 08:55:49 AM »
Hit CLR yesterday for a couple hours for an evening fish.  Bite was slow, fish were decent size, ice is still holding at 8 to 19, weather was spectacular!  What a beautiful site watching the sun set over the frozen lake.  With no wind to speak of, those of use fishing "without shanty" were able to enjoy a little warmth as the setting sun hit our faces. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining but yesterday evening was a rare experience for this ice fishing season.

General Discussion / What a Year!!!
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:35:44 AM »
I'm tellin ya, this has been one fantastic year for safe ice. I woke up this morning  and it was 4 degrees.  Fantastic!  But.......when I walked out, I heard the song birds singing...always a sign Spring isn't too far off.  Next thing you know it'll all be over.  I'm making every effort I can as of this post to drill as many holes as I can before the inevitable happens.

I'll tell you what, we auger another 3 holes at C5 and we'll be able to fish it in a boat!  Went for about an hour before the big game.......the bite was on, lots of dinks.  It was about mid way through the second quarter that I started to wish I would have stayed on the lake.    :)

Mogadore Reservoir / Mogodore 1/31 SR 43 side
« on: February 01, 2014, 08:14:14 AM »
Hit the lake yesterday for a few hours. Saw a few guys off of the Lansinger Rd. access.  I stayed closer to SR 43.  Bite was a little slow but still managed to take home dinner........and maybe enough left over for a sandwich or two.  Snow was about 4 to 5 inches. I long walk was a great cardiovascular. Ice was around 6 to 8.

Hit CLR yesterday.  The beautiful thing was the ice was only about 6 to 7 inches vs the 10 to 12 I've seen other places. The bite was on, but allot of dinks.
