General Discussion / NE Ohio

Was plowing all day.   Curious if anyone checked the ice.   14” of snow probably ruined the god 4” we had.

General Discussion / 2020 online tournament winners. Please read!
« on: January 10, 2022, 07:02:49 AM »
Dear fellow members,

I’m posting this to apologize for a lackluster summer and having not yet gotten out the prizes for last season.   They are coming!   I promise.  And we have more products to give away as well as other exciting things on the horizon for our site and Facebook page this season to come.   Some of you know that at the end of last year I got what the doctors presume was coronavirus.   I was never tested, but they assume that is what I had based on my symptoms.   While I was never seriously sick and didn’t need a hospital or any medicine to get over it, I have not been the same since.   I’ve had 2 doctors say that based on what I’m feeling that long Covid has turned into Covid-fibromyalgia.  I cannot work like I used to, get short of breath and run out of energy quickly, am not sleeping well, and have pain and muscle twitches over my entire body whenever I do anything that requires exertion.   After many tests, any serious conditions have been ruled out, this is not life threatening, but life altering and frustrating over the last 15 months.   Hence the reason for not getting the prizes out as I should have.   So what I’m going to do is combine things.   I have the list of last seasons winners and their prizes set aside.   So at the conclusion of this season, I’ll ship both at the same time.   I hate to do this, but am trying to keep up with everyday life right now.   My doctor started me on a new program a couple weeks ago and it seems promising.   My energy and sleep are slowly returning and the twitching is subsiding.   The pain is still there for now, but who cares, if I have the energy to do things that I need to.  I’m hoping to see you on the ice either this week or next!!  Any questions please PM me!!  Thanks for your understanding.

2020/2021 On-line Tournament! / Sunday 3/7 last day for submission
« on: March 02, 2021, 07:59:00 PM »
Sunday March 7 will be the cutoff day for submissions.  There are still a couple pockets of “safe” ice out there, and with temps Thursday and Friday, it may last the weekend.   After that, it will be totally unsafe.  It is sketchy at best now, so if some do venture out late ice, follow ALL safety precautions PLEASE!!   We want all our members back with us next year!

That said, 11:59 PM Sunday will be the cutoff for the online tournament!  I have all the prizes here and the grand prize custom designed IFO Striket Rod will be arriving here next week.   It’s almost done.

Winners will be announced later this month!   We have a lot of prizes this season from some great sponsors, and look forward to giving them out!  Thanks to Circle Tackle, Gruv, B-Y Baits, Striket Rods, and Venom for providing us some awesome prizes this year!   We hope to do even better next year!

Portage Lakes / Portage 2/9/21
« on: February 10, 2021, 04:00:13 PM »
Hit up portage yesterday.   Tried 3 of my normally reliable areas and it was dead.   Not even marking a fish.  Managed 2 gills about 6” each and that was it in 5 hours.   Gills came towards the end.   Thought I might get a 0 for the first time in years.   Ice was solid 5-6” everywhere I was fishing.  Heading back out tomorrow but not sure where.

Nimisila / 1/29/21
« on: January 29, 2021, 07:48:28 PM »
Hit Nimi off S Main ramp again.  Was surprised how little ice was made overnight with as cold as it got.  Very sketchy in places and still open in a couple spots.   (Blame ducks and swans I think)   Bite was great on spoons and heavy tungsten jigs from 6-9 am.  Once clouds cleared and sun came up bite died off and just dinks were had.  Fishing mostly in main channel.   18-24 feet.  Be careful though, only about 2 3/4” over the channel.   Pine Tree Bay had 4+.

Here’s a couple from today.
Crappies in about 21 feet, gills were in 5-7 feet.  All on Main St side.

Woke up to 16 degrees this morning!!  Looks like tomorrow and Monday morning at least we’ll be fishing.   Hopefully the rain Monday afternoon doesn’t kill us, but we’re getting a nice base now!

General Discussion / First date of safe ice?
« on: December 24, 2020, 12:03:18 PM »
Guess the first day of safe ice and win a Gruv jig box!
Must be on 3” of ice minimum.   Prize will not be awarded for unsafe actions.
Give it your best guess and see what happens!!

General Discussion / What’s your favorite Ohio lake?
« on: December 24, 2020, 09:17:52 AM »
It looks like we finally might be getting on some ice very soon!  Where are your favorite early ice spots?

Just curious about favorite lakes, not your specific honey hole.

I like Nimi and Portage for early ice, but Nimi is low this season so it’ll be somewhere on Portage for me.

General Discussion / Nimisila—2020/2021 Drawdown Info
« on: December 11, 2020, 10:53:03 AM »
I posted this on Nimi board as well, but here it is:

Ok, so I spoke with ODNR and Summit Metroparks.   They are making repairs to the spillway.   They expect the water levels to stay where they are right now throughout the winter.  It will not drop any lower, but they don’t expect it to rise up before ice out.  So it won’t pose a safety threat with air gaps and falling water, but some of our favorite early ice spots may be unfishable this year.   :-\
But ice fishing will still be allowed on the lake.   Just as always exercise caution and check conditions for yourself as you go out.

General Discussion / Early season safety reminders
« on: December 01, 2020, 06:27:32 PM »
Since we’ve had 2 crappy winters in a row from an ice fishing standpoint, and we are all dying to get out on the ice, we don’t want to be literally dying on the ice.   I know, bad pun!  But all kidding aside, it’s important to remember safety protocols since for some it’s been a while and for others, it’s going to be the first time on the ice.
First off ice is never safe.  There can be thermal pockets of warm water, underwater springs and currents, runoffs, etc that can lead to very thin spots on the ice that can lead to falling through.   It is vital to always check the ice as you go with a spud bar.   Never trust another person’s ice report or think it is safe to walk in someone else’s footprints.  ALWAYS check your own ice!!
Always have the proper safety gear.   Ice pics are a must.  And a floatation suit is definitely worth the money to keep yourself safe.   A throw rope is another must to help either yourself or if someone else should fall through to assist them.
Another thing is not to fish alone.  And if you must, always keep your phone with you and let someone know where you will be fishing.  And keep keys and phone in a waterproof container that will float in case of an emergency.
And it is important to always have a towel and COMPLETE set of dry clothes in your vehicle, including underwear and shoes.

I’m sure I forgot some things, so feel free to keep the safety advice flowing!!
We all want to have a safe ice season!!
