Ice yesterday was 1 to 4 inches and growing. So use your spud and check before every step. Some guys are doing really well, they have been cutting and moving and hunting for the fish, so if you don't get anything in the 1st 10 t 20 mins move around a little.

The Deadline for to get in on the Biggest Perch contest is Dec 15th , you can enter has many perch has you like but we only keep your biggest fish. Rules are on the counter in the store.

Gill/Sunnies: Guys are report some very good catches to limits of Gills and Sunnies. The guys catching some of the bulls have been doing well with the Versa-mite from J and S rigged on a Tungsten jig or a Banana Jig.

Crappies: They have been mixed in with the gills and Sunnies.

Perch: Guys are just now starting to get out on the main lake in a few areas.I had a few guys that fished the spillway yesterday said they caught a good number of perch they just had to do some sorting.Marks and Diamond willows have been doing well on the spoons front. Polish perch and plastics have also taken a fair amount of fish for guys.

Here is our latest entry into the Big Perch contest it was 11 3/4 inches long and weighted in at 14.2 oz.

General Discussion / Free Ice Fishing Seminar Dec 28th at 6PM
« on: December 06, 2013, 07:36:58 PM »
Please join us on Sat. Dec. 28th at 6 pm as we welcome Myron Gilbert to our store for an Ice Fishing Seminar.

Myron Gilbert was raised and worked on a farm his entire life. He is a Michigander that calls Brooklyn Michigan home. Myron attributes much of his on ice success to his understanding of animal behavior. He honed his understanding of fish as a successful charter boat captain, with more than 30 yrs of experience. When people are paying you to find fish for them, you have to really understand your quarry and Myron understands fish!

Myron's 10 yrs of tournament ice fishing has earned him and his partner many awards. They have often been referred to as "Ice Trollers" due to their aggressive run and gun style of power fishing.

Some of Myron's on ice accomplishments include:

Too many NAIFC Top 10 finishes to count
4 NAIFC Team of the Year Titles
2 National Championship Titles and the rings to prove it.

He was also a member of the Team USA 2010 World Team that brought home the Gold! He continues to fish and qualify for Team USA and completes on the NAIFC trail as well.

Also if you can't make it up to our shop John the owner of Sportsmen's Direct will be down at Fins, Feather, and Fur next week to chat about fishing Lake St. Clair and also about being mobile on the ice. He will have few neat toys to show off that night.

General Discussion / Sportsmen's Direct and Ice Hopper
« on: October 11, 2013, 08:22:09 AM »
I just wanted to take a moment and showcase some of the things we have to offer everyone that ice fishes. We opened our 1st retail store two years ago on Lake St. Clair. But before that we where online only company which is major part of business in the winter so there is two way fro everyone to get a hold of the products we offer. So without further to do let talk ice fishing products.

I want to 1st showcase our Ice Hopper brand and some of the items we have this year.

We just got our 2014 Shipment of the Tight Line Reel from Ice Hopper in. They are on Speical right now also. Regular retail $19.99 right now you can get them for $15.99

Here is a short video talking about the reel and how to change it from left to right hand.
http://youtu.be/jcK1JM23KlM

Flat Line Rod "1st of its kind!"
New from frozen the mind of the Ice Hopper: The Flat Line Rod combines the visual sensitivity of a spring bobber and the near indestructibility of fiberglass.

The key feature of the Flat Line Rod is it's uniquely tapered Flat-Plas-Tech (FPT) blank. This rod starts out near the handle like any other soild, round rod blank. But as you near the tip of of the rod, it transitions into a unique flat, spring bobber profile. This ultra sensitive tip was tuned to detect the most subtle of all bites yet be incredibly durable. Try twisting the tip of any other rod nearly 360 degrees!

Unlike traditional round profile ice rods designed with ultra fine, sensitive tips, the Flat Line Rod also has tremendous back bone for eye crossing, deep water hook sets. Now you can detect super soft bites in deep water and set the hook with a simple snap of the wrist. Let everyone else telegraph where the fish are or slam their rods into the shelter roof with over their head hook sets.

The Flat Line Rod sports light weight, yet durable stainless steel guides and an oversized tip to prevent tip freeze up during long deep water battles. These rods even sport quality cork handles and matching sliding ring seats to complete the package.

Now available in 24" and 32" models to meet your in-shelter and run-n-gun needs!

Pair up the Flat Line Rod with either the 1:1 simplicity of the The Tight Line Reel or the ultra fast Tight Line Extreme Reels for a high performance, value priced ice fishing combo.

Tight Line Extreme
The Tight Line Extreme (my personal favorite reel for ice fishing period)

This is the next logical step in the evolution of ice fishing reels. It addresses all of the issues that ice fishermen experience when ice fishing. The Tight Line Extreme Reel is an ultra-light weight, durable,  geared “fly reel”, with a uni-directional or one-way ball bearing drive, that won’t twist your line or break the piggy bank!

The Tight Line Extreme Reel has a slightly smaller frame than most of the conventional fly reels that are currently on the market. Yet, it retrieves line faster than most micro sized spinning reels and won’t twist the line. Furthermore, it’s unique gear box design supports the center shaft and allows the line to come off the top of the reel vs. off the bottom like a traditional fly reel. This gives the Tight Line Extreme true Straight Line performance right through your 1st guide for increased sensitivity right down the axis of your rod and guides. Add the fact that you get Zero Twist and this reel will actually help you get bit more often and detect more strikes!

Welcome to IceFishOhio / Sportsmen's Direct a new Sponsor
« on: October 07, 2013, 06:45:28 AM »
Well 1st I want to say we are happy to finally be a sponsor here on the board. I know a few you guys made your way up to lake St. Clair last winter and some even stopped by. For those that don't know where our retail store is located we are right in the heart of some of the best ice fishing waters on Lake St. Clair. We are located just south of Gino's and the Metro Park. We carry the largest tackle selection for ice fishing in all of South East Michigan.

Sportsmen's Direct
36072 Jefferson Ave
Harrison Twp, Mi 48045

Now for a little history about us. Sportsmen's Direct was started by it Owner John Bacarella who is a 15 plus year vet of the tournament ice fishing and has qualified for the NAIFC 10 times in those years. John saw a need for somethings in the market so he got his engineering mind to work. He made the Sonic Ice Hopper, soon he formed a online retail store called Sportsmen's Direct to sell his products. The Sonic Ice Hopper which is still one of our flagship products and is used by many of the best sticks that fish the tourney trail through out the country. Another staple with Sportsmen's Direct is the "Original Heavy Metal Tungsten Jigs", our Pro Series is the only  tungsten jigs that are hand painted right here in the USA.

About two years I came on board to manage and run and manage all the retail operations of the very first brick and mortar retail store here on Lake St. Clair. I met John competing against him on the Trap Attack series, I also do freelance outdoor writing and manage my own blog Out in Michigan(which since doing the retail store I haven't had much time for).I have even been on TV a few times and did some guiding and 1st mate work on Lake Erie.

John and I worked together to bring ice fishermen some more products such has the Ice Slammer Rod Series,Extreme Finesse Rods, The Tight Line Reel and Tight Line Extreme which is still the lightest geared fly style reel on the market today. We also make and design our own rod blanks for the guys that wants to make there own rods the " Extreme Taper Rod blanks". Which we just released a 48 inch model. We also are introducing the 1st of its kind the "Flat Line Rod". The Flat Line rod is unique design never seen before. I will talk more about all our products soon in a post highlighting some of the features so stay tune.

We work with many other Ice Fishing companies in the designing of products like the all new "versa-mite" from J & S Custom Jigs, Micro Spoons and Jig Candy Plastics, Little Atom and many more.

We look forward to sharing our knowledge with everyone here on the board.
