Kinda new to the forum and ice fishing as well. Last year was my 1st season on the ice. Only fished a few ponds with cheap Wal-Mart special ice combo and hand auger to try it out. Now I'm hooked and looking forward to this year's season as I'm in the process of upgrading and accumulating better equipment. I've recently purchased eagle claw inline reel with a frabill bro series quick tip, couple tip-ups, ice chisel, and a vexilar. Possibly a cheaper shanty and sled in the near future and im sure few more rods n reels lol. Hopefully this season I can get out on some lakes and res to fish with the big boys  :) I live kinda in the middle of new london,Willard and Shelby res. I plan on hitting these and charles mill and clearfork this season. I'll probably be asking a few dumb questions on here but I won't be trolling for your secret spots. Maybe some bait and tackle opinions with some ice reports. Thanks in advance for any and all help

Welcome to the site. Both Willard and London are great res'es. Use to slam big jumbos in Willard with an occasional eye. Be careful on those especially willard, they usually draw it down often in the winter and I've seen 3ft of air between the ice and water, gives ya a really errie feeling which I didn't like at all. That being said it's been quite a few years since I fished them. Are the jumbo perch still in there?

since we are between open water and ice I thought I would take a sec and say what  great fishing erie is and will be for a few years to come. the eye fishing has been great, although the perch are on the down low and you don't see the large fleets of boats pulling doubles anymore.   but the lake changes every year and we change with it or ya don't do so well. but  everyone , its time to get up there sometime  yes you ...either off the beach, or in a boat. if your seasoned up there you know what I'm saying,  but if you want some new adventures try and get up there sometime. the eye fishing is strong and getting better. the trout are on also ..   we threw hundreds of eyes back this and last year, also trolling, jigging, casting from shore its ON..  wouldn't you like to catch a 27 lb laker, or a 14lb eye, or 12 + STEEL ?  ...
You got that right Snowcone. Got into trolling this year and way to many harnesses, spoons, p10's, reef runners, and bandits later ( haha ), did very well. Unfortunately I don't trailer mine and I took it out of the water on oct 15. I dock in Mentor. They are still slamming them in Cleveland, seen 3 boats out last night and lots of rock guys. Next time your up this way searching, give me a yell.

If you think about it we got pretty lucky getting on the ice in Dec. Very seldom happens or lasts unless we get a winter like 2014. 2nd round will be here in a few weeks or so hopefully and I hope it lasts until March. Keep your fingers crossed.

Yep, veterans is fishable, they stocked the trout too I believe. Lagoons has ice also. I will probably head there in the morning. Just be careful venturing out alone until you become more familiar with the sport and even then continue to be careful. Good luck!
