Lake Erie / Reports, Pics, Info
« on: January 10, 2018, 07:32:43 AM »
Spent this past weekend giving my last try at a deer in the hills with no cell service to those who may have called. Anyway first day on the ice was 12/31 and has been great since day one. Last Wednesday afternoon I only got 5 (fished last 1.5hr) but was the only day that hasn't been phenomenal. From my understanding this past weekend 1/6&1/7 was amazing fishing. Ice is not bad. I expect (and crossing my fingers) that it holds on, if it does we are in for a great year. Yesterday we got back out after the previous windy day and things seemed stable but we have two tough days ahead. It took us a while to find the fish but once we did it was great, old man got him a nice 30inch big girl. Perch fishing is really good too and really you don't need to walk too far to get them, seems like they are all over. Lastly I got a banded walleye on the 31st. Pretty cool info I posted to see it has only grown 2inches in the last 10 years!

Lake Erie / Phenomenal Year
« on: December 14, 2017, 08:43:51 AM »
It was a great season on Erie this year. We have so many fish it is really just the best I have ever seen it. I think I have been on the water more this year than ever and it is amazing the amount of walleye we have. I know everyone will be itching to get on any ice but be cautious. This lake is not like your pond, 4 inches doesn't get the job done. This giant river has so much current, wind, and other factors that can really shake things up in a hurry.

Yesterday morning duck hunting we broke 3 inches of ice for 200yds to get out. There was a chunky ice with open holes on the lake for as far as you could see. Within a couple hours the ice thickened noticeably and filled all open areas. It was a fun day hunting but amazing to see the ice change so quickly. We have a little warm up coming and then back to average. We need a few below 0 days to get the job done so we can all enjoy this massive class of 15-19inch fish in the lake.

It's already happening but beware of new guides popping up. With the massive amt. of fish it's not going to be extremely difficult to catch them and everyone will be lake the lake "hero." It's good to see more people interested but the experience may be limited and that is important to know. With the last years of good ice I noticed something similar happening but to a lesser extent. Those were mainly an increase in ice guides which is rough since they purchased a lot of equipment they didn't get to use. This is not a personal jab at anyone, just with a major increase in popularity and the excellent fishing I am only providing my opinion. I may be young but I am in the fishing business and have grown up with it around me. I spend more days on the lake fishing and hunting than most would believe but it is my home water. It can be the most rewarding and most dangerous place but that's why we have to love and respect it. Again just be cautious. If anyone needs any info this winter I can do my best to help. You can pm me anytime or get my phone #.

Good luck to all. I'm going to attach a picture here to show a bit of a time hop from early ice days to a couple weeks ago off Lorain.

Lake Erie / Ice fishing without the ice
« on: January 23, 2017, 01:59:39 PM »
Well as expected we have no ice, weather is crazy, we are seeing different patterns in the fish this winter. Not much in the western basin. We were able to fish the cedar point area over the weekend and were successful both days catching a boat load of nice fish. All came on pimples, raps, and cicadas. Lots of fish from 11 inches to 29.5.

Sandusky Bay / Short lived season
« on: December 29, 2016, 09:38:10 AM »
Got out three times for our short season. Fishing was good on the bay when we found them. Also had to find some out of the way places to catch some more fish. Too many folks out in the normal areas.

Still some ice here but not for me. This warm up really screwed up a good thing...

Lake Erie / Had to do it in the boat

Some jigging some trolling. Some nice fish Saturday was very good but Sunday attempted to jig the entire day and it was a struggle. Most fish are scattered. Did not find a really stacked pod anywhere!

Lake La Sue Ann / 2016 Season-No ice fishing at La Su Ann
« on: January 13, 2016, 12:02:24 PM »
Rumor has it that there will be no ice fishing at La Su Ann this winter as their quota was met this summer. I believe there may be a few other ponds to fish in that area but is a very nice lake when its open!

It's called the deeper fish finder. Hooks up to your phone and can even be casted similar to the humminbird fish finder. Seems like it would die easily and be a good way to loose a phone but I like the idea! Would be great for packing light!!
