Went with Ntoiceman36 Nate, Evinrude Carl, Roger & Mike at the Cemetary. (We met for breakfast at the I-76/Rt 44 Cracker Barrel Restaurant). Temps near 10. Ice between 5"-6". High Winds. TOUGH DAY OR ALL OUT THERE. They got blow off by 2pm bc of the high winds plus they did NOT bring their shanties. I fished till 6pm.It was a great challenge, but a DEAD ZONE. Everybody I talked to didnt do well at all... dink perch, crappie and a few gills. NO WALLLEYE. Absolutely love the Skeeter Fishery and will definitely return.,but gonna have to try another spot and improve my walleye fishing techniques

After falling thru last Saturday at PLX/OSP, got to thinking of some of my safety equipment. Thought I'd share this tip with ya'all. It's my shanty pull-rope. It's a secondary throw/rescue rope attached to my shanty that is easily & quickly removable with a carabiner to the shanty sled eye bolt. TG I didn't need it last week, but nonetheless there if required.

Find the greenest weeds at early ice in the shallows....they will slowly move into the basin...look for structure in the basin mid winter....then they will move to spawning areas toward late ice . First ice they will be spread out over a weedy flat ...so drill baby drill
Find the drops or drop offs.. like weed edges weed edges are usually the first drop off of the lake.. like going from the weed flats at 5 foot to a drop of 10 to 15 fow just remember light that grown weeds penetrates so far threw the water.. so the more murky the water the less weeds you have out deep.. so if that's the first drop the second drop would be around 20 to 30 fow.. and usually larger fish sit deeper in the water but you got to target rock piles, gravel ,submerged timber, etc etc.. structure in other words think of it that way some lakes are different then others

Took a ride around PLX & Nimmy Sunday afternoon walking the Nimisila Dam with my son's dog, TAZ., Seemed like it was gonna be the last warm day of season. Spotted a few shoreline & boat fisherman. Spent some time driving around East Reservoir & Turkeyfoot looking for winter access places for ice fishing. No luck at East, but saw a couple of places around Turkeyfoot that are possibilities for parking and accessing the lake. Smoked a stogie dreaming of our upcoming ice season thinking of possible areas of Nimmy I've never ice fished.

Just dawned on other OGF'r that public access to East Reservoir will be almost nill because of the construction on Portage Lakes Drive and the subsequent fencing. I know East has traditionally been the very last lake to FREEZE and never got alot of ice fishing pressure in comparison to Nimisila or Old State Park, but it has some decent Red Ears & Perch.
Anybody know of any other public access areas around East?
