I have had trouble with the drag slipping on the reels that I put braided line on, after some trial and errors I found out that if you spool 5-6 wraps of mono on  1st the braided line will no longer slip. Easy fix to a pain in the arse during cold temps

That will happen a lot. What you've done is the prefect solution!

After a few lost fish I found a drop of glue on
Knot at the spool solved the problem .

Some of the newer reels I have purchased have a place to tie you line to the spool to stop this from happening.  The mnon backing is an alternative I read somewhere.

I personally don't like braid, but it has its place. I only have it on 2 bass rods for frogs and punching, none for ice fishing. I tied directly to spool as my reels were newer. But when I was younger I used the mono backing for about 10 feet. Many of my friends used the glue, but I didn't like gluing my spool. It worked great, but I'm anal about my gear.

A good wrap of electrical tape works good too, braid bites right in !!

I use braid a lot and I love it,  my reels have a small triangle on the out side of the spool where you start the line on, you really have to wind braid on tight  so it reduces the compression spin until it settles in ..
the time you spend fishing cannot be deducted from your life...
