Title: Outlook for the week?
Post by: Downthehole on December 19, 2016, 07:05:14 AM
Hi All,

Do you think we'll get any decent ice build this week? Forecasts show a slight warm-up compared to last week with highs in the mid 30's and lows in the mid 20's. They are forecasting highs in the 40's next weekend.

This weekend was a let down for me as I didn't get out (Truck is in the repair shop). I'm hoping to get out this week or next weekend....

Andy

Should have ice building this week. Hopefully the shoreline ice locks up good with yesterdays and todays temps.

Same at Nimi. Was out for a bit this morning on C-5 and had s good 3-3.5" inches. You could hear it making ice like crazy. Shoreline was locked up tight. This week nothing is going anywhere.

Well guys, just watched the weather and I hope they are wrong calling for a few days in the high 40s with rain toward the weekend and 60s and rain beginning of next week! We just can't catch a break, better drill some holes soon or we might be waiting for 2nd ice to arrive

Doesn't look too bad for what I'm seeing. Quit worrying nate. Your plans always work out ;)

Because our baby will come any day and I'll be off the ice for at least a couple weeks per my promise, that means a huge arctic blast.  I'll be seeing reports and photos of giant fish pulled thru ice holes while I'm changing diapers. Jealous already!

Yep, after Christmas weekend, forecast doesn't look good. Hopefully we'll get another cold front to refreeze things.  Most ice on the lakes are more sketchy than safe.

Thanks, but I'm the only one who likes fish!  But I think I'll be out sooner than thought. After this weekend looks like we'll have a little lull in safe ice and by round 2 I'll be ready!!!

Well guys looks like mother nature strikes again. The aftermath in my neighborhood ponds doesn't look promising.  Bring on the cold temps.

Do you think lakes will recover this week? I'm seeing temps above freezing for 5-6 hours each day....

from what I see of the ice its evaporating but still holding a base, and the temps for the week it looks like I'm not getting on any ice for a bit.  :P :P :P kinda like last year freeze then thaw then freeze.  but I'm ready ....I have some new stuff and I need to try it out damit.

RE-FREEZE

I feel for you guys ;D... Went out and checked my pond 1/2 hour ago: It's Still ON in NW OHIO!!!!

After close to an 1" of rain, wind and +50 degree temps all day yesterday, I spudded 8 holes and found 5 to 7" of ice. Had to step over the edge where it had pulled back a little. Temps this week are not to get above low 40's during day and down into the 20's at night. I will be back on the ice THIS WEEKEND.  Just be careful: spud your way out, go with a buddy, have a throw rope, ice picks and ice cleats( no snow left on ice and is smooth and slick).

No Ice is Safe Ice and ice that has re-froze is not as strong as new ice...

Tight Lines....

Extended 15 day forecast shows only one day in the next 10 days with a high below freezing, with two days this weekend near 50.  Not good news.  There might be a glimmer of hope for a refreeze starting on 1/5/17.

My wife already questions why I spend thousands on ice fishing gear that tends to just take up space in the garage... I'll let everyone know when she makes me have the garage sale.  ;)
