LaDue Resevoir / Ladue 3/9/14
« on: March 10, 2014, 06:27:10 PM »
Fished Ladue for about 5 hours yesterday.  Fishing was very slow.  We drilled about a dozen holes, ranging from 6-10 FOW.  Only managed 2 gills the entire time.

With warmer weather on the way I'm guessing this will be my last time on the ice this year.  But, once the ice is gone then I can get out my kayak!!

LaDue Resevoir / I'm Gene and I'm an addict
« on: March 02, 2014, 08:23:57 PM »
I think I can admit that I am now addicting to ice fishing.  I've been an avid fisherman for years, but was always leery about trying ice fishing.  Now, I can't believe I waited so many years before trying it for the first time.

I hit Ladue for about 3 hours this afternoon.  I hit the ice around 3:30 and left shortly before 6:30.  Until 5:30 it was pretty slow.  I only caught 1 little perch (4") during that time.  Then at 5:30 the bite picked up and I caught 18 gills ranging from 4-8".

Last time I was out I missed a lot of fish, so I went to a smaller jig (1/32) and that seemed to make a big difference.  Ice was about 16" and I was fishing about 10 FOW.

LaDue Resevoir / Ladue 2/17/14

I fished Ladue for about 3 hours today.  Only my second time being on the ice and I had a blast.  I only caught 3 (2 gills and a yellow perch), but from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM it was non-stop action.  I was fishing about 7-8 fow and setting the bait about 6-12" off the bottom.  Practically every drop as soon as I got the bait in place I was getting hits.  I probably needed to downsize my jig to improve my catch rate, but I was fishing the smallest one I had with me.

What are the chances the ice will still be safe after we have a few days of warm weather this week?

Mogadore Reservoir / 1st time ice fishing
« on: February 15, 2014, 09:40:08 AM »
I headed out to Mogadore last Saturday (2/8).  It was my 1st time ice fishing and only the 2nd time my friend had been ice fishing.  So we really had no idea what we were doing.  We headed out from Lansinger Rd.  We each drilled 4 hours while we were out.  I had a couple nibbles, but we never hooked into anything.  We don't have any electronics, so I'm guessing we started in about 12-15 ft of water where we didn't even get a bite.  We moved into shallower water and when we got to around 8-10 ft is when we started finding a few bites.

While we caught nothing, it was a great time.  It is great to find a way to be on the water at this time of year.  Maybe I'll try it again this weekend.
