I went out this morning and caught two 9 1/2" crappie and 7 short crappie and a bunch of tiny bluegills the ice is still all over the marina but only 1/2"-1" everything caught on spikes and pink or green jigs and everything was on the bottom I didn't find anything suspended

General Discussion / Love the new 28" JSM walleye rod

So I've been using the new Jason Mitchell walleye rod I won at the last tourney and love it. This last Sunday at alum I landed a 3lb catfish on accident on it and the pole handled flawlessly. The rod was doubled over and I had no issues landing the cat. I will be investing in more of these....Very nice product.....I also have one of the 28" meat sticks and really like that one too.....

Went out today for a bit..started out trying for trout with no luck in mad river so we went to cj to try to net some shad for cats but there were no shad to be netted...so we resorted back to some ice fishing poles and gear and caught one nice bluegill and missed a few...very windy as always...

ok so it started at reid park....fished for a bout an hour with no problems and no fish so i started walking around looking for the fish....after a few wholes the ice cracked under my feet and the crack ran out about 10'...so i left reid thankfully with out falling in....went to cj and saw my buddies dad and brother in a shanty on the ice at cj...started to get on and noticed the ice was prob 11/2-2" thick so passed and fished from the docks and we caught zero fish...so we headed to clark lake....the ice was around 3-5" when we started...we caught a few crappies and gills...then the ice started melting under our feet so we packed it up...almost went in again getting out of clark.....so i went home before i fell in i didn't wanna push my luck anymore for the day....just be carefull if your getting on any ice in springfield...its NOT safe by any strecth of the imagination....good luck

ok so are the dock tourneys over for the year? the ice is only thick on small ponds so the ice fishing sucks so far.....and its suppossed to warm up this week so whatever ice we have will prob be gone by the weekend i vote for another dock tourney at alum but thats just me....

General Discussion / ice on reid park in springfield

ok so the ice on cj is only 1/2" thick at best maybe an 1".....but reid park has ice thas around 4-5" but you have to goto far end towards the dog park....just make sure you check the ice first...


and the ice is cloudy and doesnt seem very strong so be VERY careful if you go out...would not be a good pond to fall in there is a lot sea wead on the botom and its prob only 5-8' deep in most parts....also the northridge pond has around 3" but no fish were biting and the ice is covered in snow and is cracking....ice at both places is prob very dangerous right now...

went out to cj the other night and was suprised to see people on the docks with augers out...the ice is still prob less than an inch thick and very dangerous but its a start the whole lake has ice on it.....getting close...prob heading out there tomorrow for some fishing...i hope the crappies have moved back in now that theres ice...
