Shanty Help / Re: Heater for Shack?
« on: December 29, 2011, 07:21:16 AM »
Opt,
Mine shut off one day when I was having issue getting my frozen truck bed cover back on my truck. The cover needed to be warmed up a little. So I put the cover on as far as I could, closed the tailgate and let it warm up. I came back and it shut off due to the space being pretty confined and it getting heated up and using up the oxygen in the air. It worked fine but honestly it never shut off in the shanty. I think it would take a very long time to do that as the space is pretty large. Plus in mine, I know there are a few spots that air is able to leak in. If it is a concern you can always get a little vent put into the shanty or like most store bought shanties they usually have one built in. All in all my buddy heater can't be beat as far as reliabilty, ease of use, safety and heating.

Jonny,
I was watching the weather up here as I was typing this. I am in Northern Ohio as well. It does not look good up here. Lowest overnight temp Tanchek from Cleveland was predicting was 19, however the rest of the highs were in the 40's and lows in the mid to upper 30's. One thing I have learned is to not watch the weather to much. I lost many days on the lake by planning to far ahead. Then do something else and see the lake is awesome. Look at this week. They forecasted 3-5 inches in Cleveland and up your way 2-4 and we got a trace. It was suppose to be an area wide snow and it turned into nothing. I then we had to watch every news reporter trump up how "terrible" it was. Only time will tell

General Discussion / Re: What do you wear on the ice?
« on: December 22, 2011, 08:31:18 AM »
Mustang Suit MS2175, Insulated Jeans, LL Bean Flannel with cabelas expedition weight thermal underneath. I can ice fish on a bucket in the teens with some heavy wind and many times when I go back in the shanty find myself unzipping to cool off.

The advice about getting your things done around the house could not be more true. My wife sees me trying to just do everything and can't wait to get me out of her hair! I have one more last night trolling walleye trip up on Erie tonight and then it will be like watching paint dry on the wall til hardwater comes. But it will be here. It is normal to be talking to my friends from PIB at the Cleveland Boat show mid-january and have them tell stories of them just starting to pull their shanties out onto the harbor. Don't worry soon come! Soon come!

Mustang Suit MS2175 with a pair of insulated jeans. Then on top I wear a cabelas expedition weight thermal and a LL Bean Classic Flannel and never ever get cold even bucket fishing in the wind. Sometimes in the shanty I find myself unzipping to cool off!

Sled Help / Re: my sled
« on: December 11, 2011, 05:23:14 PM »
We made a sled that just measure long enough to fit our backpack shanty and wide enough to hold the shanty and two buckets. Took some pvc drilled a hole through it and made six rod holders off the back and sides. Used two eye bolts and tied a rope to them. took a couple inch high left over 2x4 pieces to make the legs. Took a pair of ole garage sale ski and screwed them to the bottom. The thing glides like a champ over anything, rough or smooth. One day I will get a pic of it and post it. It cost next to nothing to make and your own possibilites are endless in what you want to put on it or how big you want to make it.

Wellington / Re: Wellington Saturday
« on: February 14, 2011, 07:07:02 AM »
Made it out Saturday 2/12/2011. Bite was steady for gills and a few bass, but all were small. I do not keep anything out of Wellington but if I did, I still would have thrown these back. A few guys have reported good to excellent Crappie bite after dark. Stopped by on Sunday in the early morning on my way to another ice fishing trip and found the ice to be forming large puddles from melt off making for what would look like a wet day on the water.
