Ice Safety!!! / Bad Ice Be Careful
« on: January 16, 2010, 01:12:34 PM »
With the warmer weather be have been getting and with more to come I just have to say be careful. I know that where I fish the snow is melting and some parts of the main lake are starting to reopen up. Just remember no ice is safe ice.

Bait and Tackle stores / Mogadore Bait and Tackle
« on: January 13, 2010, 09:04:03 PM »
These guys are always very friendly and helpful. The don't have alot of ice fishing stuff but they do the essentials. There bait prices are very reasonable and if your going to fish Mogadore they are the only shop around.

I was out fishing today and I got to thinking about the different types of ice fishing reels there are. I was wondering which you all prefered.

Mogadore Reservoir / Ice report
« on: January 13, 2010, 06:56:18 PM »
I fished off the east side of Congress Lake Rd. from 1 pm to 530 pm. I was 2/3 of the way to the duck blind from the launch ramp right in the middle. I was fishing a foot off the bottom in 9 ft. of water. I was using a small green/white/orange jig tipped with maggots. I caught 13 LM bass most being under 12 inch's with 2 of them being 17 inch's. I also caught 2 dozen keeper gills 3 nice perch and 8 crappies over 10 inch's. It was seriously a stand up afternoon. I wish I could find my camera cable to take a picture of this jig because I caught every fish on it. The fished seemed to like it when I jigged it up and down only about 2 inch's at a medium speed on and off for about 5 seconds. Any other way I jigged they would not bite. If you want to go out I can go just about anytime just let me know.

General Discussion / Crappie size and catch limit?
« on: January 12, 2010, 04:25:37 PM »
I was at a local bait shop today and the owner told me that on March 1st there will be a new law that says crappie must be 9 inch's or more and you are limited to 30 per day. I'm going to do some research but I was wondering if anyone else ad heard this.

General Discussion / Minnow bucket?
« on: January 11, 2010, 02:41:35 PM »
Ive always used my standard minnow bucket( about 1 gallon, kinda clear with the yellow flip top). After an hour or two it starts to freeze up. It has never froze up to where i couldn't get my minnows. I was just wondering if they make a heater for them or if anyone has seen a bucket for ice fishing besides those Styrofoam ones.

Nimisila / Ice Report
« on: January 11, 2010, 01:51:18 PM »
Just got back from the lake. I fished in the bay back by the campground. The ice was 5 -7 inchs. I fished from 10 am until 1 pm and caught 35 bluegill with 26 of them being nice keepers. A few of them were some really nice redears. Also I drove by the C-6 lot/ launchramp and there was ice but I dont advise going out there as it was wide open water Tuesday last week. I will be going to Portage Lakes Old State Park this evening for crappie and back to Nimisila in the morning if anyone wants to go.

Went out yesterday to the Old State Park in the afternoon and we got about 20 bluegill. Most of them were 4 inch's and under but I did get 1 keeper. The ice was about 5 inch's. I'm going to be head to Nimisila in a few minutes then back to the OSP for crappie this evening if anyone want to meet up.

Bait and Tackle stores / Causeway bait shop on Mosquito
« on: January 10, 2010, 11:07:36 AM »
The Causeway is awsome. Not a single store around me had anything worth mentioning but when I got up there they had EVERYTHING. I highly recommend them. They even have a website  www.causewaysportinggoods.com
