Ice Gear for Sale / Frabill 2 man Flip style shanty
« on: December 07, 2013, 01:37:34 PM »
Im selling my Frabill Magnum shanty, in great shape, I bought it 2 years ago and that tells you I haven't used it much...
This is an older deluxe model with tons of room in it, 2 super sweet swivel seats that can be removed if your by yourself, comes with travel cover and I have the Hyfax runners if you want to put them on it. This unit sold for over $600 new ( ~4 years ago)

Price is $375 and Im in Dayton but often at Indian lake area and Alum for dock tourneys. I do drive around Western Ohio for my job so also could meet around Upper Sandusky or Lima/Van Wert if that helps.

PM me if you want pics...

General Discussion / Forum suggestion...
« on: January 04, 2013, 05:35:33 PM »
David, any chance we could add a forum for each section of the state such as "SW Ohio Reports" and "Central Ohio Reports" etc to capture all the reports that are NOT on public lakes, we have many local park ponds and places that locals can post about with ice thicknesses there, For example I was on a private pond today but it its location in the SW area might help others know what to expect in the same area, also we have several park ponds that always freeze first in the area and Id love to know if anyone has been out on them yet.. Just an idea.

General Discussion / Teaching high schoolers a new hobby....
« on: January 26, 2011, 07:22:07 PM »
a friend of mine and myself taught about 15 local HS kids how to ice fish today. It was the Environmental Science class at the local vocational HS, ( Miami Valley Career tech ctr) , They have a 1 acre pond on the property and after a short safety lecture and a quick How to do it, we headed out, North wind made it rough for a few underdressed but they built a nice bon fire and ate smores while the rest of the kids were in class!! ( I wish I had class' like that when i was in HS)  right away one of the non fishing  kids nails a 15" LM on a Jiggin Rapala and was strutting around like he owned the place, way cool!! several other kids were totally into it and even brought there own stuff, It was a tough bite, the kind of day where you mark fish like crazy but cant get them to eat, or if you did, the kids were slow on the hookset, only a few bluegills were landed but a great time was had by all!
I suggest if you have the oppertunity to take a kid out and show them a new hobby....You wont be sorry!

General Discussion / Big White bass through the ice - 1/23/11
« on: January 24, 2011, 01:00:53 PM »
Fished with a newbie hard water friend, Scott, a public lake not to far from Dayton, marched a long ways toward deeper water and after moving around a bit, found  some nice big whitebass, taken on Jiggin Rapalas and shad rapalas, firetiger and perch colored.  Took ( and released ) 14 fish from 14" to almost 17", each hooked a few more and missed a bunch of hits.   screeen would be blank on the Vex for 12-15 minutes then a school would come through, bam, bam, a double almost everytime, then nothing for another 10-15 minutes when the school would come through then bam, another double, pretty cool, This lake is not known for the white bass but it does have a few and big ones at that...
Here is pics of me and Scott with one of the better fish we had caught.

Anyone else ever find bigger white bass like this??

General Discussion / Trip Report 1/14/11
« on: January 16, 2011, 11:31:11 AM »
Fished a large public park pond today near Dayton and 3 us us struggled to find fish ( 2 different shanties, I was loner) they stayed in 1 spot most of the day with a 15.5" LM Bass and 1 nice gill so they camped on it while i moved at least a dozen times to find some fish, after 11 moves, I hadnt marked a fish or seen any with camera and vex. Last hole slowly produced some nice fish for me as I picked up in 17 FOW, with a small blue rocker jig and tipped with 2-3 spikes, 8 gills from 8.5 to 9.25" and 3 bass, 15", 16" and 17.75" so it turned out to be a nice trip bu the first 6 hrs without even seeing a fish was quite frustrating.
Here are some pics.

« on: December 31, 2010, 05:47:42 PM »
Thinking of heading up first thing in the am... I know most of the ponds down here in Dayton do not look good with about 2" of water on top of them, but I know IL didnt get the rain we did down here, any good reports from today?? Panfishing is the plan with spikes, minnows and waxies.
