General Discussion / Got out today
« on: December 16, 2017, 02:33:45 PM »
Buddy and I hit up a small metro park pond in Wadsworth today and managed to get a couple of gills and trout! Felt good to be out but we had to exercise extreme caution, the ice was sketchy at best. Hope we get a deep freeze soon.

General Discussion / Jiffy 4G 41 review and Jiffy Customer Service...
« on: January 26, 2016, 06:57:21 PM »
I bought a new Jiffy 4G 41 this summer, thanks Amazon, and its broken already without drilling one hole......But, Jiffy's customer service is standing behind their product and getting me back up and running.

Story:

Got the jiffy ready for its maiden voyage this past Thursday but the auger bit wouldn't turn???

I disassembled the auger and come to find the clutch totally came apart from the engine and the set screw was completely stripped so there is no chance the auger bit can turn. Bummer. I contacted Jiffy and they are sending me a brand new unit and took ownership of the problem without any hassle. I am really impressed with their customer service and their stance behind their products. I'm getting a new powerhead by Friday and paying to send back the defected power head.

I hope you all don't have to go through this but Jiffy really impressed me with their service and have a satisfied customer even with not ideal circumstances.

Please stay cold. Tight lines.

General Discussion / Thoughts on propane power augers
« on: February 19, 2015, 09:56:54 PM »
Looking ahead to next season and i'm going to invest in a power auger. Gas vs. Propane, that is the question. Anyone running one of the propane machines? I'd like to hear anyone's input on them.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Humminbird mod
« on: February 15, 2015, 02:23:11 PM »
Message for all bird users. I dislike, understatement, using floats with my transducer cable. So, I used a Marcum transducer support arm and attached it to the support post on my ice45. It took less 30 minutes and is rock solid. Packs up nice for storage and still allows for the transducer cable to wrap around the support post. Turned out excellent.

1. Dissemble the support arm from post.
2. Bore out support post to accommodate a 1.5" 1/4 bolt. I used all stainless and a nylon lock nut. This bolt fits snug with the support arm.
3. Tighten down the arm down. Tighten until snug, do not over tighten.
4. You can use the humminnird's cable clamps or use Marcum's transducer stops, purchase from their website.  I took the stop from my showdown.

I bought the arm from Amazon, link below.

Only a couple of more weeks left!

« on: February 11, 2015, 08:18:16 PM »
Going out of Catawba Friday morning. Anybody else headed out? If so, want to keep in touch and share reports?  Looking to have a memorable time with some buddies. We'll be using snowmobiles to travel around all day.

Thanks!

« on: February 01, 2015, 09:32:06 AM »
8-10" of good ice. 2 inches of slush and six plus of clear ice. Caught 10 small crappies on minnows in 14'. Bite turned off at dusk. First time ice fishing here. Anyone know of any structure?
