Lake Erie / todays report
« on: February 13, 2010, 10:28:14 PM »
A buddy of mine from Marblehead went out of metzgers marsh this afternoon. Went 3 miles out & limited in 2 hrs. Big fish was 26.5". Ice about 8 inches thick. Only tricky part was getting snowmobile over riprap bank(enough snow so not too bad).

Getting tired of fishing in the slush. Wish the snow would melt & refreeze but that doesn't look like that's going to happen. Still caught 1 19.5" saugeye at dunns today. Be careful cause the snow is degrading the ice.  g

I bought a MacCourt super tub at Lowes for $11.96 that is 36"x24"x8" that works great. it holds 2 buckets,my heater & auger. sure beats the prices they want for regular sleds & beats dragging my 2 man shack. It is big enough to sit in to keep your feet out of water or slush. My next project might be to see if I can mount a seat to it.  g

Fished dunns yesterday from 4:30-6:30PM.Caught 2 14.5" saugeyes and lost 1 in the hole. Some of dunns is solid to stand on & some is very slushy under the snow. Fish wanted the #2 black & gold jigging rapala. Couldn't grt them to go on a vibe. Didn't mark much until sunset like normal. Good luck & be safe.   g

Chris, usually I will only spend about 10 min. at each hole unless I am marking a lot of fish and then I will give it20 min. or so . I try and drill at least 10 sets of 2 holes first before I start fishing (thank God for gas augers).Fishing Indian I use a 3/16 blue & silver vibe & a #2 or 3 black & gold jigging rapala. When I catch a fish I only fish that hole for a few min. before changing holes. Most times I find 2 or 3 sets of holes that produce & I alternate between them.If I am only there for an afternoon or morning I stay in the same area like Dunns, but if I am there all day, I change locations after 3 or 3 hrs. depending on fish marks.Hope this helps.Grant

Ice at Dunns was only about 3 inches thick yesterday and deteriorating. Northfork still had 8 inches Thursday but hard to say after today. Still caught 4 eaters at Dunns on 3/16 blue & silver vibe.
