Nimisila / Re: Campground
« on: December 23, 2019, 06:21:00 AM »
Hit Nimmy Campground Bay on Saturday 12/21/19 for 1st ice with Evinrude58 Carl. We fished from 8am-11am.  Shoreline ice was sketchy, but luckily Carl brought a board we used to get on.  Ice was 2'-2 1/2" at best.  We only went out 100yds from shore fishing in 5ft-7ft of water.  I was fishing with large minnows & Tip Ups while Carl was after panfish.  Carl caught half dozen dink gills & 1 cigar perch. I lost one nice tugger.  Sun came out & shoreline ice was looking darker & darker.  Deciding safety was our number one concern, we called it quits earlier than we originally anticipated., but overall it felt wonderful to be on the ice again

Sorry Guys, I'm going against the grain on Palm Rods. I'm not a fan.  Maybe it's because of my age, short arms, lack of flexiblity or rotund size... but I'll pass on them.

Totally agree with EV58.  Nimmy has changed.  For the last few years, it's been a disappointment despite my hours on the hardwater in search of Gills, Crappie, Perch... whatever. The catch has been extremely sporadic... and that's not just from me but other guy who've spent hours drilling & searching.

It's still a beautiful, local lake but I've been focused on other lakes within the PLX chain and Mosquito.  I'll hit Nimmy early in the ice season, but will move to other lakes once safe ice is obtained.

General Discussion / CERTIFIED Safe filling system for 1lb Propane Tanks
« on: December 18, 2018, 05:10:29 AM »
For those of you who are unaware, there is a certified safe and legal option for using and refilling and transporting one pound propane tanks. For now there is only one company offering this to the public. It is becoming widely available in major chain stores and on-line.

It's called the Flame King Refill System.

Manual.
http://www.flameking.com/media/wysiwyg/Training_Manual_for_1_lb_cylinder_fillers.pdf

The tanks are designed to blow mist out of a bleeder gauge valve to let you know when the tank is at the 80% full mark as you fill them. The remaining 20% is for expansion of the gas. This removes guessing how much is in it and is how much gas they are supposed to hold.
Please wear thick gloves to protect your skin and wear eye protection.
Always refill away from buildings and open flame or sparks.
After filling a tank, try to hold the 1 pound tank to refill valve tight until the valve  is completely unscrewed to help prevent gas leaking at that connection.

Many of us have switched over to this system for obvious reasons, the number one reason is safety.
The disposable tanks (D.O.T. 39) are illegal to refill and also to transport after refilling.

Some concerns about their recall in the past are noted here:
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received two reports of the connecting valve starting to unscrew from the cylinder. No injuries have been reported.
