I uploaded some photos with that but I don't see them. ????  Anyway, yes, awesome place and fishing like I haven't done in a long time.  Both were great trips.  16 hour cruise from Cincy, but worth it.  Hard to go wrong with any fishing in Northern MN.  It's all good!

Just wanted to toss up the teaser photos...

Had to go to Northern MN this year for good ice.  Sorry guys, the truck was full so no extra invites.  Two trips...One in mid-Jan. and one in mid-Feb.  Jan. was really the best bite.  Limited out on jumbo perch for three days with plenty of big pike and walleye mixed in.  Most walleye in the slot (17in. to 27 in.), but did keep some good eaters.  Pike were really hitting hard too.  Had to toss at least 8-10 really nice pike back to stay at limit.  #3 or #4 Black or purple crushed ice pimples and purple buckshots were just the ticket.  Full minnows most times, but sometimes just the head worked best.

Feb. trip was a little less successful, but still fun.  Brought home 72 jumbo perch for three days of fishing (2 guys) and a limit of pike too.  Not as many eyes this time, but still got a freezer full of good MN fish.

Stayed at my buddy's camp out on Sugar Lake most of the time and camped on the lake a couple nights.  Beautiful country.  Little snow this year so we could drive anywhere we wanted to on the lake.  Highly recommend a trip up there if you can.  Going back for open water weekend after opening day.  Hawgjam

I've been hitting farm ponds and killing 'em the last 10 days or so.  Filling up the bucket with nice big gills.

Sorry that happened to you firefish.  You'll find one in every crowd...you know this already.  Don't let it get under you collar.  Just jelous about your catch.

Completely off topic...I was just thinking about the term "dink" the other day.  Dink is a term I started hearing here in OH just few years ago.  I moved to and lived in Wisconsin for 16 years and from living there and living here, the term seems to have migrated to Ohio from the more northern territories.  My guess is that it may have started out as a derogatory comment.  Once upon a time I use to hear "he's just dinking around", or "Joe...he's such a dink"...things like that.  Never knew what it meant, but just went along.  It word always seemed to be used in good spirit.  For years after I started hearing "dink" used to describe fish that were too small to keep.  Didn't think much of it until I moved back home to OH and started hearing it here.  Crossed my mind recently.  Anyway...............

Indian Lake / Re: Northfork/O'Conners Ice Cond, and 'Eye Bite?
« on: February 02, 2011, 03:55:13 PM »
Fished Monday 1/31 and Tue 2/1 at NF.  Nothing but white bass in the AM on Monday.  Moved around and started getting more crappie and perch bites by early PM.  That aftetnoon, right as the weather started to come in and the winds changed direction, I got a few eys to bite.  One keeper and 2 toss backs.  On Tue. morning I caught 6 eyes but not one single keeper.  Kept 4 perch and 4 crappie though.  Got wet and nasty in the early PM with freezing rain so enough is enough and I'm gone.  It seems to me that the fishing is back to a more predictable pattern, but the dink ratio is still extremely high.  Every eye I caught was on #3 or #4 pimples tiped with a minnow head.  Pink or red prism colors seemed to be the ticket as the storm tracked thru.

I've been thinking the same thing but I haven't wanted to say it out loud.  Kiser may have more saugeye in it than Indian right now.  I still want to try again.  If the ice holds up to the weather I'm just going to go light and hike around the lake until I find some.  There are some places I've always wanted to hit on the ice at Indian but I've never had much reason to leave the usual spots until now.

Fished from 6 till 5:30 or so on both days.  Hard fishing.  I just can't figure out the bite at this lake this year...frustrating.  Can't seem to find quality fish on or off structure.  Two throw back eyes on both days and only 12 keeper pan fish to show for two days worth of fishing.  Over two days I tried Northfork, Moundwood, Dunns, Pony, Blackhawk, and another place I don't want to mention because I seem to have it to myself ;D.  A lot of dragging the sled and drilling holes.

Fished NF on Thurs 12/16 from pre-dawn to dusk.  I may have had all of LI to myself until around 1 or 2pm.  Walked away w/ 9 gills and 4 crappie.  Bunch of toss backs and not a single eye :-[  Not much action in the am but the bite picked up around 2 or 2:30.  Ice was better today.  I walked all over the place and everything I drilled was at least 6".  Good ice.

Fished NF today from 12 till dark.  Bite was stupid slow and the ice was very marginal.  3-4" where I was fishing and a lot it was crap white ice.  I'd give it at least a few more days and spud your way there.

I'm going to go check out NF in a few hours and see for myself.  If I see some good ice I'll post later today.

Soooo?????  So do you think the wind we're getting with this snow will blow some off the ice?  With cold nights predicted for Mon. - Thurs., I'd think it would firm back up if there's no big snow pack.  Maybe by this Thrus.-Fri. for better ice??? what do you think?  Love to get that early ice!
