Indian Lake / hot spots?
« on: February 12, 2010, 03:31:30 AM »
I get to go out this weekend we finally got some time off, I haven't hit the hard water in a while so I'm asking for a little help on where the saugeyes have been hanging out. I gotta work Friday night so I wont be able to hit the ice til 10am Sat or so, I know its not the best time for eye fishing so I was gonna hit a few pan fish spots then go after the eyes in the evening. Any info would be helpful, the last time I was out the water was muddy and I never marked a fish in the places I went.

General Discussion / Idle Time from fishing
« on: February 10, 2010, 02:40:06 AM »
We all are dealing with this snow in some way shape or form but after talking to one of my friends who live  on Long Island I think its time for us to slow down on the fishing until they get a chance to get their area cleaned up from the snow. I know I don't like it when the neighbor parks on the street and the plows go around his truck leaving a pile of snow in front of my house. they feel the same , we should give their plows a chance to push the snow off the roads before we start parking on the sides, Oconners has to be all screwed up I don't know for sure but they have got to be running out of places to push the snow , then on top of that we start parking at the dead end and make it worse for them. We are visitors in this area and we should respect the area or lose the area to park. This is just my thinking and 1 of the reasons I haven't been to the lake.

General Discussion / More snow on the way
« on: February 07, 2010, 02:29:44 PM »
You can call me a liar ,stupid  or just a plain old dumb ass but I was cleaning up the rest of the snow in front of my house when the neighbor asked me if I've sen the latest weather forecast. Now he teaches science at Spencerville and is always on top of the weather systems and always tells me whats coming. I told him I hadn't looked so he gave me the bad news, we have the potential of getting up to an additional 16" of snow by Wednesday with the very least 7 more. If you want  to see for yourself go to accuweather.com and look around for yourself. Looks like icefishing is going to take a back seat again for me. :(

« on: February 06, 2010, 01:39:34 AM »
got to the lake @6:30 am fished north fork got 1 dink eye, left by 9 went over to the bridge @Li area, crappies hit my vib but I couldnt land em switched to crappie rods and nothing, fished there til noon or so, went up the road a bit and tried both sides of the road , nothing notta didnt even mark a fish. Talked to a guy who lives on LI and he and his neighbor fish everyday said the fish moved out or quit bitting last Sat, he said they've picked up a crappie here and there but no steady place or bite. I left LI area and fished several more areas and notta didn't even mark em. Wasgonna hit it again sat but I think I'll wait da snow might be a wee bit too deep for me and da ice may not be so hot with all da snow on top. Good Luck all and if you're on them and you dont mind throwing a crumb or 2 my way I'd appreciate it.

Indian Lake / Ice conditions on sat 1/30/10
« on: January 30, 2010, 04:05:41 PM »
I did the dirty work today and drove all around Indian 2day. Blackhawk/Lucy's hole had good ice fished there 4hrs had a few little gills/ 2 hits on a vib out front of B.H but no fish/ Moundwood was iced over but couldn't get on ,maybe 1-2inches at most. Cranberries saw 1 guy out there I dont know how he got out cause the edges were junk. Long Island you can get on the south side where the water comes close to the road on both sides, north side was junk by the road. There are  or was a bunch of guys parked by the bridge , I did real good on the crappies on the south side , herd they were getting gills on the north side of the road but the edges were still a little junkie. I went back to the south side today I got there too late and probally left too early I only had a few crappies but they were nice ones. Oconners/ North fork I saw 5 or so guys out there but stay away from the mouth of North Fork ,if you park @ the dead end be very very careful looks like its only skimmed over with 1-2 at most.I hit a few other places I dont know the right name but I call one of them gerominos camp site, I went back there for an hour or so , water was very cloudy ice was okay at best. No fish though.Gonna go back Sunday I will probally hit LI on the south side down by the bridge pink and yellow seem to be the best Friday, I will bring my shanty tomorrow the wind was a little stiff today. good luck and be careful ,just because you see somebody out there doesnt make it safe.Good thing no sleds on the ice where I was at.

General Discussion / Hawg Eye Fisherman
« on: January 12, 2010, 01:12:49 AM »
This goes out to the hog who shit in the bucket sat night -sun morning at oconners and left it out for eveyone else to see. You are the man, you are the greatest , the best , the butterfly and the bee, you have to be one of the funniest person to hang out with, your got to be a real crowd pleaser. But if you want the truth from me and the others who saw it I think you're white trash , a trailer court slum dog who must be used to shittin in a bucket at home cause his water lines are froze and you wont get off your lazy ass to thaw them out so you shit in the bucket and throw it out your back door for you neighbor to see. But I want to thank Shawn (dont know your last name) for having the stomach to clean it up and to even clean out the bucket and take it with him, I couldn't, Thanks ,I dont think we can take too many more screwballs ice fishing before we lose this spot.

General Discussion / The eyes are on the move
« on: January 12, 2010, 12:53:28 AM »
Went to the lake today ,(mon) the 11th got there around 6:30 - 7am. Drilled 2 holes sat on em for about 10-15 min when the eyes started to hit, within 20 min had 5 and about an hour later got the 6th. Hot pink 3/16 was the hot color, tried only a few different colors cause the bite was fast when they came in and dead sea when they went out. Talked to a buddy of mine who fished the same area in the evening from 2:30 till dark they caught 1 eye and 1 catfish. The ones I caught in the morning 4 were in the 2-3lb the other 2 were 1-1.5 range. Wanted to take pictures but my best fishing buddy is on the recovery so instead of going home I dropped by his house and gave him and his wife some goood eatin, @73 his best fishing days are behind him.

General Discussion / Shanty City
« on: January 11, 2010, 01:00:03 AM »
Wow , I just fished the weekend at several different spots and when I came up to Oconners I thought that the people in the houses moved into shanties, there must have been 40 or more shanties set up. With that being said please guys and gals remember we are visitors on the lake and we should repect the people who live there, I have a co-worker who lives on Long Island and he has told me several times that those people who live there try harder and harder every year to block us from parking along side the road. The main reason is the trash , human waste and dead fish we leave behind I know I preach this subject in most of my post but if we dont police ourselves the law will and i dont think we can win that battle. I'm sure that who ever shit in the bucket again this year at Oconners thinks it's funny but when we lose that area who is going to laugh last?

General Discussion / hot bait for the eyes
« on: January 08, 2010, 07:51:17 PM »
Fished indy yesterday in the snow and today, did real good on the eyes but only with one color. I fished 1 hole with the same color for 2 days and in the other hole i tried sweedish pimples to every size and color vib e I have, the other hole out fished the change 8 to 1 caught 4 saugeyes both days (biggest one pushed 5lbs) on the average the others were 17-18 inches. The color you ask, its the one the dont have any more of , just kidding yellow and orange in any combo. Where I cant tell, I will tell this the eye bite on both days only last about 45 min in the evening when they shut off its over. Saw the bait fish move in with the aid of the vex and the eyes followed, when they moved out nothing and I mean nothing. during the bite 1 guy had a double on and a guy right in front of him had 1 on. Good luck!

General Discussion / BIG BIG Saugeye
« on: January 07, 2010, 04:16:44 AM »
Just wanted to get your attention on this subject. I was fishing earlier today (3rd shifter) ,saw a guy snag a good size saugeye in the belly of the fish, it was very obvious even to the blind, he kept the fish and  even went on to show a few guys his trophy, blood still coming from the hook site, now as a true sportsman to this, do you and are you supposed to keep it or release it. I' ve been on the release side  and seeing how this is a fine on the maumee river I think this is what we should practice.

General Discussion / snowmobiles
« on: January 06, 2010, 08:55:26 PM »
Well its time for the sleds to start buzzing us again, with the snow coming so will they. I know there is plenty of room on the lake but for some unknown reason they always seem to want to be where we are fishing. Wouldn't bother me so much if they would just slow down. I know as with all things in life it's not all that are bad but the bad ones leave the sour taste in your mouth. Two or 3yrs ago I was fishing in blackhawk, sleds were buzzing by us all day and into the evening, couple of guys built a snow fort on the ice to block them and also drilled a bunch of holes in the ice and stuck huge limbs in them, the next day the park rangers was out there trying to find out who done it. They never found out but did say theyv(the sleds ) do have a speed limit limit on them while in the channels. I dont know what the limit is or how they would enforce it . Enjoy the lake with respect!

General Discussion / Clean Up
« on: December 31, 2009, 10:25:04 PM »
One of my biggest complaints of ice fisherman is the trash we leave behind. I saw over at Long Island today trash left behind trucks parked on the road side. These people who live in the houses and pay 300-500 thousand to live there wont put up it very long. Last year we left chairs, broken buckets, cigg butts, mcdonalds trash, small fish and one guy even crapped in a bucket and left it for somebody else to find. I've been ice fishing for a long time (started in 79) I would love to keep the same hot spots open for the next 30 plus years without having to get on a 4wheeler to go out. So please if you brought it, caught it or used it please dispose it properly.
