Let us know how you like it. I looked at it hard before I bought the Kenai Pro Thermal. Only reason I didn't get one was; I wasn't sure about being able to flip up for just a wind break or the ability to just flip up and move without folding everything down.

Check under inventions. I posted some pics last winter of taking a paint roller screen for a five gallon bucket and attached to my Buddy Heater to cook on. :) :)

I just upgraded from the FL8SE to the FLX 28 this year. So far, I love it. Only been out with it twice and still learning what I can do with it as compared to the FL8.  Really like the split screen and zoom.

Welcome aboard!! Glad to have you. Best icefishing site around. I'm in the very NW corner also. :)  Are you familiar with Barton, McKarns, Nettle or Harrison lakes? These are my stomping grounds plus Michigan & Indiana. ???

Nettle lake / Checked today 1/19/16
« on: January 19, 2016, 01:04:49 PM »
Checked today. 4" at the public access. Open water straight out from the ramp off the 1st point with geese setting in it. Couldn't check the North end. May try this weekend, as in years past, I have been able to fish solid ice within 50' of the open water caused by the geese. Should be able to reach my favorite spots. No sign of anyone else having been on the ice yet. :)

Checked today and most of lake is open. Steam rising off the water and plenty of geese on the water. This lake has some 75' holes and doesn't freeze well. ::)

Barton / Checked Today 1/19/16
« on: January 19, 2016, 12:56:06 PM »
Barton is locked up! Ice by the ramp was 4", but ice looked a little iffy just out from the ramp channel(that is where the creek channel runs from the N. to S. end and dumps into the river). I was by myself and only had my spud, so I didn't get too carried away to check the creek channel area.

Southwest corner access next to the river: Sled and foot tracks going down to the ice(since Sunday's last snow) and onto the ice. Tracks and 1/2 dozen set of holes from 20' out to 150' from the shore. 5" of ice in the holes I checked.

Unfortunately, the individual/s that were fishing left their trash and cigarette butts on the ice and was froze in. Some people just don't care!! >:(

May have to fish for crappie this weekend. ;D

Small Pond Reports / Went out this am!
« on: January 17, 2016, 02:38:03 PM »
Went to the same pond this morning. Temps dropped from 28 degrees to 14 degrees between 8 and 11:30 this morning. Winds 15 mph with gusts to plus 20 mph. Started snowing when I arrived, no real accumulation, just enough to coat the ice and prevent reading the ice. Made spudding all the more critical!!! Bite was tough, a few dink gills and some followers, but no keepers. Water stained and fished from 4-1/2' to 6-1/2' deep. Used plastics, spikes and waxxies.  :)

Small Pond Reports / 2-1/2 Acre Pond Today
« on: January 16, 2016, 07:54:16 PM »
Fished a pond this afternoon. Got out there about 3pm. Ice was a little punky around the edges and a couple of small areas of open water thanks to the geese. Was able to get out to decent ice; carefully with a lot of spudding. Had my ice picks around my neck and flotation vest on. No snow cover so cleats were a must. Found 3-1/2 up to 5" of decent ice. Fished in 5-1/2 to 6' of water on edge of the weeds. Bite was slow and tentative. Water was stained and couldn't see anything past about 8" with the AquaVu camera. Marked a lot of fish, would follow bait up and disappear. Caught a few dinks and managed 3 gills just shy of 8"(really thick and tall) and 1 crappie at 11". Gills hit on a Glow white teardrop tipped with spikes and activated with glow light. 3mm tungsten perch jig tipped with spikes produced dinks and red Ratso tipped with spike only produced followers.
Headed back out in the morning to do more exploring; didn't move after dark based on ice conditions.

Be safe on the ice and spud your way out and back AND make sure you have all your safety equipment(ice picks, cleats, rope, whistle, flotation vest or suit, etc.

No Ice Is Safe Ice!!!!

It sure felt good to get the cobwebs off and wet a line; plus didn't get skunked ;D
