Grand Lake St. Marys / Grand Lake Open 1-13-2013

Looks like we might be fishing first ice for the second time this year. Most of the lake has opened up with the rain and warm temps. With any luck, the cold weather will return and the ice will be better than it was the first time. I just hope it did not mess up the catching we had early in the hard water season.

Grand Lake St. Marys / Grand Lake Walleye 1-7-2013

Got 1 - 19" walleye in the evening on 1-7-2013. Had lots of marks in just a couple hours but I think the high sun did not have them in a feeding mood. Does not hold a candle to the 6 I got on Sunday AM. The biggest went over 23" and 5#. Most of them caught on a blue jiggin rapala in 7 ft. of water. The big one had a 5" shad in the stomach and several other bones from fish about the same size. Tried to add pics but I could not re-size using resize.com.

Grand Lake St. Marys / Skim Ice Grand Lake 12-24-2012

Nearly the whole lake is covered with skim ice on Christmas eve 2012. Some open water in the center. Now it is warming up so it will probably melt. That might be good since they say snow is coming. Maybe it will get good and cold after the snow and really lock things up.

Anyone been out at O'Conner's/Northfork have an ice report or bite report for saugeye? Been thinking about hittin' it there on Sunday 1-30-2011.

Lake Loramie State Park / Ice Thickness @ Luthman Rd After Thaw

Anyone been fishin/catchin at Luthman Rd after the warm spell at the 1st of the year? Want to get out again, maybe Sunday. Don't want to waste any gas and time if the ice is not good there. Lots of open water on Grand lake right in front of the house. It appears to be opening up more instead of freezing, even given the recent cold temps.
