i"ve seen this water gush out from a hole before at kiser when there was inches of snow on top of the ice. it is amazing, but the weight of the snow pushing down on the ice is the cause of this.if you go to ohiogamefishing.com you will find a post with pic of a really nice 22in.saugeye taken off africa road this past weekend.however it is always wise to check your own ice for safety.

it was a good day to gather even if the fish didn't.we left blackhawk after the great chile lunch and took mdbuckeye to long island.i hope mdbuckeye doesn't feel he made a bad choice;he was a good guy, we just couldn't get on fish.oh well, maybe another time.thanks again see you all again and good luck.

that is the problem, after using the one n kiser i was so impressed that i came home and tried to find on-line.i was able to find a site that had 3 left, but they were $150.quite a bit more than the lazer which is on sale in a cabelas catalog now for $69.

i have had for a few years a mora and just recently purchased a lazer 6in..i usaully, even with the mora don't have problem with 5in.of ice,but beyond 6 the mora was getting tiersome and haven't had the lazer long enough to know the difference.however, while fishing kiser last week,an old gettleman had a nils auger and allowed me to try it.i found it to be the easiest and fast hand auger i have used .has anyone else used a nils and what are your thoughts?

what defines a sport fish? to me a saugeye is a sport fish.saugeye seem to be every bit the challenge to catch as a bass with alot of sucess depending on the knowledge of the angler and his ability to present a lure in a specific style or technique.this is not derectly aimed at firefish, but bass anglers seem to be snobish in there attitude toward other fish, putting the almighty bass at the top.there is not a bass angler out there that knows challenge if they haven't spent time chasing steelhead in rivers under harsh winter conditions and if they did they became better bass fisherman from the experience.my 2 cent.

bass seem to be a protected class where any self respecting angler practices catch and release.i enjoy catching any fish, but don't care to eat fish(i perfer beef),so releasing fish is a little easier for me  unless they are trophy class;i do enjoy seeing a good mount on the wall.i wish the protection of bass were given to saugeye.it seems any saugeye is like putting gold in the freezer.i believe great fisheries need to have anglers that practice selective harvest. a lake can become healthier by keeping smaller fish and keeping an occasional trophy while may not be helpful, probably doesn't hurt.

mike's across from levans always has them.was there this morning and he had them.i went to turkeyfoot and ice was only 4in. with large area of open water by docks and channel;ice should still be fine in other areas.this was first time in turkeyfoot this season and it did not produce, but be aware this area looks to be one of the first to become unsafe.

i too have not been to presque, but have read about it .not sure if i remember where i got reports from, but i believe landbigfish.com used to have reports.however i think that site has become more of a tackle shop than reports.anyway i too will be off next week and am interested in a trip, but i think we should have someone who knows the bay tag along versus two guys making a 4hr drive not knowing much of what they will find when they get there.

« on: December 20, 2010, 07:46:36 PM »
hello everyone, i just registered to site and looking forward to sharing.i know indian pretty well, but have not targeted saugeye thru the ice as of yet.i do have what i think i need though.2 new jason mitchell walleye ice rods 4 bearing reels with anti reverse, 6lb. test line,at least a dozen vibe-e 3/16 and 1/8 oz. swedish pimples, and darters,as well as clam two man shelter.firefish recommended site at pro bass weeks back and the site video prompted me to purchase the mitchell rods. i would also like to get into erie walleye thru hard water if anyone is willing to show a new guy the ropes.thanks and again hello.
