2020/2021 On-line Tournament! / Re: Remembered form
« on: February 15, 2020, 07:11:52 AM »
Looks like that 5" perch may win Evinrude58!  A few years ago when we had another mild winter, i got a decent largemouth in late January but it was not through the ice.  I hope you win something.  What lake did you catch it on?

General Discussion / Re: NO ICE THIS YEAR
« on: February 01, 2020, 02:27:09 PM »
My "brand new" shanty has gone through 2 seasons without being on the ice.  It was frozen inside my shed last season and only a couple of days of good ice this season when i could not get out.  Maybe next year will be better.  I am giving up on this season. >:( :'(

Lima Lake / 12-26-2019 Ice Report
« on: December 27, 2019, 04:47:42 AM »
Thin, rotten ice was still covering Lima Lake yesterday. Planned on fishing from the dock, but it was roped off and needed repairs.  Talked to one guy ice fishing off the boat ramp dock, no bites there either.  60 degrees is too warm for this time of year!

Ferguson / Ice Report 12-26-2019
« on: December 27, 2019, 04:42:30 AM »
Both Ferguson & Metzger still had ice on 12-26-2019 but it was soft and rotten. Large spots of open water on both reservoirs.  Both were pretty low too.  60 degrees is not going to build us any ice.

Bressler / Bresler & Williams Open 12-26-2019
« on: December 27, 2019, 04:36:08 AM »
Both bresler & williams reservoirs were completely open yesterday. Neither looked like they had any ice yet.  Two guys caught perch from the bank on the north point which was out of the water a few feet.  Saw one guys launch a boat and headed towards the south shore.  60 degree day with a south wind does not make good ice!  😰

Merry Christmas everyone and a safe and happy New year.  Long range forecast is not looking good for us.  Please ask Santa for some north pole type weather.

I am not aware of a change, but here is a link to a past post that david had sent an email to the state asking if they were considered tip-ups.

I would check with the wildlife officer in the county where you plan on using them.

Grand Lake St. Marys / Grand Lake skim ice 12-14-2019
« on: December 14, 2019, 10:03:29 AM »
We have about 1/8 to 1/4" of skim ice over most of the lake.  Waited for sun to cut through fog for picture. Can't wait until it gets 3-4".

Lucky you, I am so jealous!  Grand Lake St. Marys had skim ice about 1/8 to 1/4" thick on 12-12-2019, but warm temps overnight probably wiped it out.  Still just over freezing this morning.

Inventions / Powering Electronics & Lights
« on: November 23, 2019, 10:11:30 AM »
Try using a 12v lithium ion car jumpstarter for powering your electronics or shanty lights.  I got one the these from Amazon for around $50 and some connectors to wire up to my graph for my kayak. They are light weight, hold their charge in cold, perform well in the cold and are supposed to have a long life as they can be charged many more times than the typical lead acid gel cell.  The one in the kayak is only 7800 mah but keeps my lowrance hook 4 going longer than 6 hours.  It powered my vexilar fl20 for over 7 hours too.

This is a little cheaper than getting the Dakota lithium ion battery, but it won't last as long.
