Went for a drive yesterday and checked out some of my favorite lakes. Berlin is way up. Normally the southern end is just a tiny channel, but now it has water deep enough to launch a boat off the Price road gravel ramp. Should be back down soon. Hope it's lowered fully before it starts to freeze, don't want any air gaps!
-
Yea could be ugly. Heard you stopped in,maybe next time.
-
Yea, I'll be back in when (if) >:( we ever get some ice. Hope things drain out before the freeze.
-
Looks like 2012 this year, the lake is falling slowly, no more rain and come on cold temps
-
At this point it'll be well into January if we have any ice at all
-
Glad to hear lake is falling. Hope the freeze sets in VERY SOON!!!
-
Drove by yesterday and water is still higher than normal. Rain not helping us today either. Also very muddy!! Starting to get concerned about Berlin this year. Probably unwarrented, in a couple weeks will be fine. Just really want to start jigging for some eyes!! ;D ;D
-
Everytime it starts to fall more rain makes it rise. Hoping for the best!!!!!!!!!!
-
We will get on the hard stuff this year. Its still December. Most ice seasons start in January anyway. We all got spoiled the last few seasons which started very early in some cases. 2 winters ago I was on Dec. 7 and the following weekend at Mog. Then a thaw came and it started all over. 4 or 5 years back, I didn't get on Erie till the last day in Feb. The ice was s..t and didn't get a bite, but still got out, and in, safely. At least we won't have the thaw that seems to happen after a few weeks of fishing. Berlin will fish this winter for sure. Lots of time left.
-
Looking at the long term forecast, I'm getting more confident. Sunday's still going to be in the 40's, but after that the next 3 days are going to be below freezing all day. Hope that continues into the next forecast period.
-
hey slabslayer have you fished over the odnr s structure they planted, i tried last year but my gps crapped out ,
-
No I haven't. I'd forgotten about that. I fished what they planted on Deer Creek, but forgot about Berlin. Normally I try the roadbed, but if you have the gps location, I'd love to try it, if you don't mind sharing the spot with me for a little while.
-
some of berlin between 14 and the rr trussel was locked in when the cold came. but with the 50 plus degree weather we just had itll be just a tad longer, mcdonalds hamburger thickness and im on it lol..
chuck do you still have any big boy vibees? been wantin to powder some, got a bunch of new powder paints,, some phenominal colors
-
Have a few left Freak
-
Cool, what colors do you have, and where'd you get them. I paint too. But I do crappie jigs, not vibes.
-
joel i got a lot of different colors, a few different blues, few greens, yellows, and a couple pinks, couple golds, silvers, high gloss, translucents, etc. there is a very extensive list of colors and types. take a look at it, the 2oz bottles work just fine although i id order some bigger sizes on some things i know i would use. having trouble finding a hott pink that i want... colombiacoatings.com pretty decent collection and at half the price of a tackle store that would sell the powder paints. im really considering some new colors and designs.. i would like to find a guy who does photo finishes.. i can see that being a very very deadly on walleye. as most of the walleye im getting im not ripping but simply doing a "flyby" approach...actually fishing and finessing a vibee rather than rippin or jerkin or jukin as some do. its unreal. We'll have to get out this yr. and ill show ya a few of the techniques i use. they produce very well.. somethin else to add to your arsenal when your out fishing with them. i lost your number. pm me and ill get your number from ya
-
Sounds good. Love to get out together and add some new walleye techniques to the arsonal. Thanks for the website for the paints. I can't find a good hot pink either! >:( Anyone out there able to help???
-
check out cs coatings. I use a lot of there powder paint and they also have alot of regular lure paint also.

-
Thanks, I'll check it out. Do you know if they have glow also? I'm experimenting with it and am not happy with my results.
-
There white glows awsome and the orange is almost as good. the darker green powder paint sucks though. I was disapointed with the green but I will buy more white and orange powder paint when I run out.

I was wrong. Big time. Sucks, but what are you going to do. Pulling the boat out on Saturday for some trailer work. Anybody know the current water levels out there?
-
Berlin is around 4 ft below summer pool.
-
I take it that the water is also very dirty? Would love to get out on Sunday if the wind is favorable. It would be a real shame if I didn't have to wear my knee highs to launch. LOL! If its nice on Sunday I'm stopping by Chuck.
-
The lake is clearing up nicely. A little skim ice today, nothing to worry about
-
Lake is at normal winter pool now, and hopefully, fingers crossed, will be great fishing for the walleye tournament!!
-
That is great news, the water level was so low over the summer it was dangerous
-
It sure was. I didn't fish it for that reason in the summer.
-
You should of seen it this fall before "Sandy".
-
I did, it was horrible. I didn't take my boat there this year for that reason. I was afraid I'd hit something.
-
water was very very low i fished it all summer and did pretty good but, had to be real careful... :o there is allot more debree on the bottom than you would ever imagine...mostly cinder blocks and skids, rocks...
-
.... and that's where the fish are! ;D
-
yep the fish are around the debri hahah and so are my lures that hung up and broke off while trollimg ;D ;D
-
I also have a few crawler harnesses dangling off those skids!
-
thats for sure i have some pics i took during the low water summer now i wish i had taken alot more while i was out in my boat
-
I hope you marked all that good structure on your gps so we can hit them up now that the water is back up when we get on the ice :)
-
yeah about that my gps is junk and now is powered by h2o :o hehehehe ...dont worry all is in the memory... ;D oh wait what was i saying?
-
Guess we need to fish together then!! ;D
-
yes we do will be a blast
-
You planning on coming to the tournament the 17th?
-
Anyone know what this rain has done to the ice/ water level on the lake?
-
Anybody check Berlin lately? Curious about ice conditions.
-
I stopped by Marks bait shop he told me it was wide open, didn't even bother going to look after he said that.
-
Thanks, sure it really is open now. I'm concerned about the walleye tournament. :-\
-
Drove over 224 bridge on Friday and the lake was covered as far as I could see. No open water.
-
Wow!!! That's amazing news!! I hope is stays that way and we can do the tournament next weekend! ;D :o 8)
-
need an airboat eh ;D
-
Looks like it!! :D ;D
-
Snowcone, you have or have access to an airboat?
-
sorry i wish ui did ... should i build one , with this weather patterns it would be worth it ;D
-
It would be. Could make a lot of money with it taking desperate fishermen like me out!! ;D
-
trust me many times i thought of buying a flat bott and converting it ;D i have seen in detail how there are made :) a motor, prop, cage, reinforce bottom .....zzzoooooommmmmmm
-
They are pretty simple. I wish I had the time and extra money and I'd build one. You could fish all year with one. If the ice was thin just drill off the side. I think it would eventually pay for itself, just I have no place to store one. :-\
-
Anyone have an airboat in the area?
-
My wife's uncle lives in south Florida and could get me an airboat!!! :o Now I just need the wife to sign off on it! >:( ;D
-
Back to seriousness, what is the water level there now? Have a tourney soon and am curious. It's a 45 minute drive for me and I don't want to drive just to look at water. ;D
-
hey slab give a@c a call he will give you good info on the lake ,
-

The lake is at summer poole and the walleye are spawning
-
Does this mean our fabulous dnr will be "borrowing" the eggs?!!
-
Thanks, Chuck! That's what I wanted to hear. I hope the ODNR leaves the fish alone. Leave Berlin to do its thing.
-
berlin has alot of structure and plenty of gravel bottom, if the dnr would keep the water level stable it would have a chance to grow into a good fishery , just my thought ;D
-
I agree. The winter drawdown is stupid. I know why they do it, but it kills the fishing.
-
I love fishing berlin,we mostly fish the dam side where its deeper, how is the summer walleye fishing on the other side of 224 bridge
-
That's a good area! I love to bass and musky fish up in mill creek area. I won a tournament in there a couple years back.
-
The water was up again, hopefully it will clear up and dip back down to winter pool so the tournament can go on in January this year! We all want to fish this year!!
-
Has the lake started to lock up yet.
