Went out today fished out from 305 ramp. Fished from 10 til 2:30 picking up a few crappie and 1 small eye. Moved to other side by state park after friend of mine said he was getting a few eyes. Managed 3 eyes with 2 of em around 15-16" Caught this nice eye about 4:30 11' fow on clown Vibe 3/16. One eye on kastmaster with a minnow head and the rest on Vibe's. I'm  gonna try it again tomorrow. Ice is iffy in most spots. Where I fished it was 3-4 ". If you go be careful and take spud bar. Still looked like open water out in channel.

Mosquito Creek Reservoir / Making ice!!!!
« on: December 29, 2012, 04:12:56 PM »
My buddy drove across causeway today and told me the North side is locked up and the South side has pockets of open water. After the low temps coming this week we should be walking on it in just a matter of days.

Mosquito Creek Reservoir / Praying for ole man winter to come this year!
« on: December 09, 2012, 02:39:37 AM »
Ok heres the deal I've been sitting on a brand new Strikemaster 8" 4 stroke auger, a brand new Yukon TC shelter, every imaginable color of a vibe and numerous new lures of different makes. I need to use these items very badly. It was a banner year on the boat this past year with limits of nice walleye on just about every outing. Some real nice fish in this lake. I have been praying for cold. My positive attitude has me believing I will be on the ice the first week of January. What do you guys think? We couldn't possibly have back to back winters with no ice. I might loose my mind if I don't get the opportunity to ice some skeeter eyes.

I fished with a buddy Saturday and Sunday out around Green and Rattlesnake Islands. We left out of Catawba State Park. My buddy got 3 eyes and I got one. Nils masters and pimples got the fish. Ice was 9" at the thinnest on the way out and a foot around the Islands. Hope this snow doesn't shut things down.

I fished south of Rattlesnake and picked up a couple of smaller eyes. My buddy landed some nice eyes Friday, an 4, 5, 6, and  7 lb. All caught on # 6 Gold Pimple. The fishing was still rather slow, but I had an awesome time and cant wait top get back up there. We stayed at the Black Squirrel and Rob and Marie are awesome people.

I fished out from the graveyard Saturday till noon then moved down out from 305 ramp. Gills are hitting just about everything. I also caught a few crappies and perch. Sunday I fished the buoy line and managed 1 15" eye and a few nice slabs. The crappies are harder to come by up North but they are a bigger. Spoons tipped with a whole minnow got most of the fish. Walleye was caught on a small blue/silver kastmaster.

I fished the south end out from 305 ramp both Saturday and Sunday. Lots of crappies but no eyes. I fished from 14 ' to 21 ' of water. I picked most of the crappies up on a forage minnow tipped with whole minnow with a few coming on a 3/16 Vibe. I might give the North end a try this weekend.

I fished the North end out from Lindas from 9 am to 11:30 am and managed a few small crappie before packing up and heading south. I fished the rest of the day NorthWest from the 305 ramp. I caught 2 13" eyes and 1 17" eye, a bass and a few more crappie. I eneded up bringing home the 17" eye and a 12" crappie. 2 eyes caught on a 3/16 Vibe and one on a jigging rapala tipped with a minnow head. 16ft of water. Ice is in nice shape.5" or better.

I fished out from Lindas North of the causeway from 1 pm to 5 pm and managed 12 crappies with about 7 of them being nice slabs. I fished in 12 feet of water using small forage minnow tipped with a minnow. Ice is around 4". The fishing seems to be started out slow but should pick up. I was out about 1/2 mile from the baitshop Northwest to island.

I fished the buoy line Sunday in depths ranging from 7 to 10' and I myself caught about a dozen decent crappies and a few nice perch. Friends of mine got a 16" eye on a tip up first thing in the morning. They also got some nice crappie with one over 13"  I also saw a really nice eye caught on a tip up about a 25" female.Ice was in great shape and easy walking with now slush, but with this warm weather the  ice will be unsafe especially the shore ice.. There is a 10" crack a little ways out on the buoy line. That's it for me, I'm putting the ice gear away. It was kind of sad walking off the ice and knowing it will be a 9 months or better before I do it again. It was a great season,

I fished the tourney and it was a blast. We had a chance to get in the money as my partner lost a nice eye at the hole. Sure wouldn't have won it as the winners had everybody covered.  We caught our crappies pretty quick and I got mine on a small kastmaster tipped with a minnow head. Sunday it was slower and the fish were smaller. Seems most of the walleye are being caught up by the buoy line.  Not in large numbers but the size are decent.

I fished out from the causeway saturday about 3/4 way to the island in 11' of water. A few crappies is all. Ice is 10 to 12". Sunday I went almost all the way to the island in about 9' of water and caught some more crappie a few perch and a 28" Northren Pike. Kastmaster w/ minnow head got most of the fish and a few crappie on a Vibe. No walleyes for me but a few are beng caught here and there.
