The noise doesn's seem to bother the fish.  I've drilled a hole, cleaned it out, put a bait down, and pulled up a 14 inch crappie that fast.  Not saying they don't hear it, just doesn't seem to bother them.

Wd-40 works wonders on ice auger blades- helps for a smoother cut and keeps rust off.

be sure to put the blade cover on after each use. it reduces the risk of the blades being damaged and injury to the fisherman.
