General Discussion / SUFFIX 832 ICE BRAID
« on: December 23, 2013, 01:38:43 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone has used the Suffix 832 Ice Braid before.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I have been using mono for all types of fishing and wondered about
using the ice braid as a target specific type line.
Mainly medium to large predatorial fish... Walleye, Saugeye, Sauger ect....

General Discussion / NAVIONICS FOR YOUR SMART PHONE
« on: December 19, 2013, 03:06:05 PM »
No need to spend big money on a navionics system.
There's an APP for that!!!
Haven't put it through the paces yet, but it looks like a great tool.
Has many North American lakes as long as they have been topographicaly mapped.
This App uses Navionics along with GPS from your phone.
I will definetly be using this.
I have heard alot of rumbles from Flasher users, of not having an integrated mapping system available.
I think this may be the next best, most affordable & outright coolest thing I have downloaded on my phone.
I hope someone finds this post as useful.

Just search for NAVIONICS at the play store on your smart phone.

Now all I need is the ICE to stick around!!!

« on: December 16, 2013, 10:06:58 AM »
north side had 2.5" off the ramp and off the point.
South side had 2" clear ice.
This was from Friday Night.
Not sure what the snow did to it.
Hopefully it mixed with water and tightened up.
Be carefull if you get out!!!

Have to got to go to a wedding this weekend so I won't be able to check this week.

Checked the up ground last night around 630 and it has 4-4-1/2" of clear ice. We got a little rain last night but no damage done. It tightened back up good today. I will be there tomorrow and Saturday as long as the rain holds off.

2020/2021 On-line Tournament! / First time to skeeter
« on: February 17, 2013, 08:55:51 PM »
Well made my first ever trip to skeeter today. Fished the morning on the north side due west of the boat ramp around 9 feet of water. Marked very few fish and only caught one tiny gill. Ice was 4-5" but spudded my way around none less. Fished the after noon south of 88 about 3/4 of a mile due south of the parking lot.kept about 20 gills 1 perch and a 16 in large mouth. The ice was a solid 5". Reports of crappie caught in the area in the morning.
I would lime to thank the gentleman who brought his shanty out for the first time in 3 years and had 7 mice jump out and run around the lake. I do not know who he was but I know I laughed for at least an hour.

Mosquito Creek Reservoir / Is causeway bait shop still open
« on: February 14, 2013, 02:12:39 PM »
Is the causeway bait store still open at mosquitto? Their website says they are for sale and no one answers the phone.  If the aren't open any longer does anyone know who to contact for an ice report?

General Discussion / A Camera or A flasher
« on: February 11, 2013, 08:17:21 PM »
Well I have owned a camera for years. I just bought a flasher this year bit have used a friends many times. This is a tough question to ask myself. I have learned many things by actually being able to see what is going on under the water. I have also learned many things about structure and how it reads on a flasher by using my camera that being said. I would expect many more votes to register for flashers as this is the most common electronic on the hard water. But that is why this is a poll for all us ice junkies to post our vote and  voice our opinions. Aren't polls great.

Spencer lake / 2/1/13
« on: February 03, 2013, 09:19:46 AM »
Well I checked Spencer on 2/1 around noon. There is an 1-1/4" on the edges of the south side and 1-1/2" on the north side. The north lake looked very wet on top. I m guessing it will have good ice before the south side. 2" of snow on either side. Both will probably be fishable on Wednesday. I will have another report on Monday or tuesday. I will try to check today I am curious how wet the top got And when it will tighten up. The entire lake is iced over.

General Discussion / Anyone up fr steelhead fishing this weekend?
« on: January 31, 2013, 06:57:41 PM »
No ice within 2 hrs of me so I'm going steelhead fishing in the river. At least I can get out of the wind if I have to. I live smack dab in between the vermilion river and the rocky river. It will be very cold but the water temp warmed a little. Cleaning ice out of the eyelets is tougher ten feet away. But I gotta stretch a line and can't make a 3 hour drive one way this weekend. Anyone interested let me know.

Spencer lake / Potential hazard
« on: January 29, 2013, 12:38:18 AM »
I received a call from a buddy. After I left Sunday, someone with a gas auger and a year or two of pent up frustration  poked around 30 holes off the main trail on the south lake from the west parking lot. The holes are around the main stump which sticks out about 4' from the top of the ice. They also punched around 20 holes directly west of the boat ramp off the east enterance, north edge of the south lake. With the rain and warm weather this concerns me. I wish people would be a little more concerned with preserving the ice. That many holes with 10" of ice and week of cold weather is OK . Not with rain and 60. Hopefully the ice holds I got a year to make up for ;) I feel this is info that must be shared. I saw the largest amount of people on that lake in 7 yrs.
