Muskrat or really ugly looking fish?
« on: January 04, 2010, 11:04:27 AM »

So we were fishing with Ratherbe on Saturday and as we were settling into our shanty after moving towards one of the islands we noticed a fish (we think) swiming up the one of the holes we drilled. It was ugly looking and blackish but we don't think it was a muskrat. My budy says it wasn't a catfish- he had a better look at it than I did. Could have been a dog fish. It that looked like the fish on the credit card commercial - the one where the guy takes his dad to Norway for his 60th birthday because they thought they were Norwegian but ended up being from Sweden. The fish they show when they discuss sampling some of the local fare. That's what it lokked like- but we didn't get a great look at it as it swam away when we saw it. We are wondering if it was a muskrat and what to do if a Muskrat swims up a hole and gets into your shanty.

I have read that this happens up north. I read one story that the muskrat came in the shanty and stole a fish. Then came back for more. The guy decided to try and feed it by hand and it bit his finger very badly. I would get out until he leaves.

muskrats dont eat fish theyre vegitarins(sorry 4 spelling) it was probly an otter if it was up north. if a muskrat was to come up a hole in your shanty it would only be to get a breath, they are very affraid of humans, i see it very unlikely one would do that, but if it did sya hi and open ur door 4 it. ive been trapping, hunting, and fishing my entire life and this is the 1st time ive ever heard of this.
