Soft Water Fishing Reports / crappie slowing down
« on: May 18, 2015, 03:25:24 PM »
Fished all weekend. Caught a dozen or so fri night at caesars plus a few saugeyes. Limited at paint solo on sat morning but I really had to work for them. A lot of the females were spawned out. Went  sun with a buddy and we fished all day all over the lake and ended up with 46. Obviously you can still catch em but I think the frenzy is over. Have about all the crappie I need for the year anyway. Plan to hit the Saugeye locally if I get a chance next weekend and then I leave for Erie for 5 days on the 27th. YAAAAAY!!! I CANT WAIT!!! Feel like I'm just talking to myself posting on here this time of year but maybe someone will read this and find it useful.

Soft Water Fishing Reports / paint creek 5/9 and 10
« on: May 10, 2015, 05:29:04 PM »
Still biding my time waiting for my erie trip making do with the crappies.  Limits by noon both days this weekend. Starting to get a few nice females but the majority are still males in the 9 1/2 to 10 1/2 range. Just about everywhere I've tried in the lake has produced.

Another limit at rocky this morning. Hit the water about 7 and was done by 11. Would have finished earlier but was releasing anything under 9 1/2. Nothing real big and none had eggs. Not sure if they were just all males or spawned out already. Seems a little early with all the cold weather we've had. Gonna try paint creek in the morning. See if I can find some size.

Good luck slab. Don't know you but you seem like a good dude, and i can't imagine not being able to fish. I'd be kicking puppies and tearing the heads off teddy bears. Just kidding. Anyway hope you have a speedy recovery and good luck on the crappies. Been hitting em in shallow water so if these cold fronts get out of here you should be hitting it at the right time.

2 man crappie limit at rocky yesterday.  Most 9 1/2 to 10 1/2. Couple up around 12. Caught em all over from 10 ft down all the way up to the bank. Minnows and tubes. Also picked up one Saugeye and a couple perch.

I just put them in a Styrofoam box full of wet ground up newspaper. If it's not too hot i leave it in the garage. The fridge is better if you can do that and stay married. Make sure you wrap rubber bands or something around the box to keep it shut and put it in a plastic bag. They will get out if you dont. Nightcrawlers roaming free in the fridge doesn't go over very well in my experience.

Went up sat afternoon and stayed the night at a buddy's place then fished sun till 1030. Non stop crappie action but just no size. Kept 12 out of the prob 125 I caught. Black/chart stingers. Some buddies of mine went up today in the boat and didn't do much either. Will let you know when I find em.

Fished st marys yesterday. Eastern end of the lake. 3 of us fished from about 9 till 6. caught well over 100 crappie but only 21 keepers. Had some real hogs tho!!! Probably kept another dozen nice gills. Color didn't seem to matter a whole lot but pink was probably the best. Also chartreuse smoke and purple produced fish. Good luck. If you hit kiser let me know how you do. PS I am hearing rumors of excellent night bites for crappie right now. May get out some glo jigs and try it this weekend

Thanks buster. You know last year by the week before Easter I was catching em right on the bank 2 ft under an ice bobber at rocky. Guess we are a couple weeks behind.Whenever these brutal cold fronts stop coming through they'll start moving

Buster was wondering in general where you were finding em. Not specific spot, just depth, structure, etc.. one of my fave lakes and haven't made it down yet. Maybe sat. Nice slab btw ;D
