As you know the wind was tough several days ago. There are 4 huge ice shoves off catawba. They are all passable but there was some holes of open water that are now skimmed over and snow covered. The only way I found was to head south around the first shove and then work back north through it all.
Safely made it out this morning, no issues. Fished on 8-10in of great ice and went to F can. Managed 2 keepers and a fat perch. Bite was off and obviously slow compared to last week.
On the way back in we had a couple inches of snow and all the bad spots were covered.
NEVER NEVER NEVER take a new path in when there is unfamiliar ice. Use gps to plot your way out and follow the same course back in. I was careful enough to find the bad spots before it caused issues but 10in of ice turned into 1in in a matter of a step.
