Post by: davidhoheisel on October 23, 2012, 08:56:07 PM
Hi guy's,

IFO will be starting early ice fishing pot tournaments at Alum Creek and CJ Brown starting in November.

Check in starts at 7:30 am.

Entry Fee $15 per man. Individual tournament.

Biggest Crappie wins $5 per entry.

Biggest Saugeye or Walleye wins $5 per entry.

$5 goes to help cover IFO website costs.

In addition each angler will win a product prize from our sponsors for entering.

Dates and Location.

Sunday November 4th at Alum Creek Marina Docks 8am to 1pm.
Sunday November 11th at CJ Brown Marina Docks 8am until 1pm.
Sunday November 18th at Alum Creek Marina Docks 8am to 1pm.
Sunday November 25th at CJ Brown Marina Docks 8am to 1pm
Sunday December 2nd at Alum Creek Marina Docks 8am to 1pm.

Rules- We will be weighing your largest fish per species and the largest fish per species wins that pot. If there is a tie than we will go to the anglers second heaviest fish.

If a certain species is not caught that day than we will pay a second place spot for the pot.

2 rods can be fished at one time. No casting allowed. Only a vertical presentation. We prefer using ice fish gear but long rods are ok as long as no casting is made.

We always have fun with these events until safe ice.

Please check the site in case their is rain and we cancel a day.

Everyone is welcome!

Why are all the dates on Sundays?  Probably not going to be able to make many as Sunday is typically church/family day.

I didn't think about it which i should have done so with a lot of guy's going to church. My kids also play basketball on Saturday's.

I attend on Saturday nights but know that not all churches offer a Saturday night.

I can't change the dates now because it has made some newspapers and I would hate for someone to drive out and we wouldn't be there.

The best way to get there from the north is to take 36 to Lackey Old State Rd. It's about halfway between I-71 and Delaware. Follow the signs for the Marina.
Head south on Lackey Old State until you get to Hollenback Rd. It'll be the 2nd stop sign.
Make a left onto Hollenback and follow the drive back toward the marina. You may have to park at the dog park and walk on back to the marina, but you'll probably be able to get to the dockside by car.
It's a beautiful spot, good luck!

I'm going to be in the area and I'm looking forward to the Dec 2nd derby.
Never fished there before, any restrictions on live bait and are there any bait shops around.
Thanks for any help

Join us this Sunday December 2nd at Alum Creek Marina.

IFO will be giving away a Dave Genz Fly reel combo to the winner of the Crappie division in addition to the pot.

This cold weather should move them in the creek. I would expect a decent Saugeye bite.

See you then.

what seems to be better places to fish? back away from the lake towards the creek? out near the open water? up close to the bank?

It very's every time you go out.

Today they seemed to be in around 22 feet and i caught them right off of the bottom.

Tomorrow they could be suspended.

I always start out with my vex to locate them. A vex always helps.

They are calling for scattered showers, We will hold the event rain or shine since it is not that cold.

IFO will also be giving a Dave Genz Rod and reel away to the winner of the Crappie pot.

FYI, I know you guys were up at Ashland today but thought Id share todays Alum Dock report.
Short report: it sucked....
Long report, it was about like the tourney 2 weeks ago where it was cold and windy and the bite was slow all day but definately better early.
Me and PondFin@tic ( Ryan) showed up around 8 and by 9 had 3 of our 4 keepers today only 2 other fish caught buy us was a 7" Yellow Perch and a 5" gill.  wind beat us off the Eastern Docks and it sounded like all 9 folks I saw out there had about the same luck, 1-2 keepers at best, no Saugeyes landed but I think I had one on, or another species that was of respectable size,  no shad on surface but vex still showed a lot of bait around, i know we fished through all of it with nothing to show, nowhere near the fish marked as last week.   We and most others left around 1 when the rain started getting a little heavier.

Bright spot was 3 of the fish we landed ( 2 whites and a black) were between 11 and 11.5" and heavy, so some nicer fish there.  Fish were mostly in the midle column of the water as only 1 of my fish ame near bottom.  Vex was empty about 99% of the day, LOL

Looking forward to next weeks tourney and Curtis, Ill have my camera for you to try out there.
