Before the thaw I fished 1/2mile SSW of the bridge 700ft north of the tip of Lake Ridge island. And it had 5-6” of nice clear ice, at the same time Dunns Pond had 8-9 of ice “it was the best fishing so far this ice season” However… when you get rain, and your in a spot with current. it is not only wearing away the ice on the top, but the influx of extra water is shaving thickness from the bottom. I don’t know if that part reopened but the area around the bridge did. I would wait for a few weeks of cold before going especially with the snow insulating the ice. (REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR OWN ICE)

That’s good to know! I most likely wouldn’t keep it unless it was big enough to mount. But for the date I was thinking of the 16th but man would that be a bad day on the ice if you got hit buy a stray 50. Cal. Sabot

Do you still live close to Killdeer? I live 45-50 min away and its hard for me to get up there to check it when i know that other waterways are safe. if i could find someone to tell me that its 5" at the ramp id be willing to check the rest myself with a spotter.

I also pickup a nice used snowmobile. Does anyone use one for pulling there shanty? I never seen anyone before around Indian. Ill feel like a nerd with all my new toys
I use 3 different ways of towing. Quad, snowmobile, and just this year started using a Murray lawn mower that I got off of craigslist for $50. I changed the pulleys around and it will do 15-20 mph. pulling a full jetsled.

I know where to find them during soft water season, If I could get a few people together to check the ice thickness I think we could catch a ton of them. it should be safe in a few days.

I bought the clam scout, had several bolts pop off, wrote clam a letter and their reply was nothing more then ,"sorry bout your luck" we had a batch of bad screws but the problem is now solved". Yea right, I still got a 3rd rate shanty and had to get new hardware to put it together. I sent them the pictures and they had no offer in return. I guess next time I'll try a shappell or a frabill.
My Yukon had two left bracketsand was missing the poles, and I broke 7 bolts. They shipped me the parts next day. build date on mine is 12-23-10. So I doubt they fixed the hardware issue. On the Clam box it had an american flag and said made in the U.S.A. but every package inside said China! Im happy that they too fast action with the parts. Im dissapointed they didnt replace the hardware.

I have a 5" mora and starting holes it walks around and cuts about a 6" hole it’s new with sharp blades. I tried a mora 7" that cut a little better than mine. But anything over 8" of ice it was a pain in the butt. My solution was to buy an Eskimo Mako 43cc 8" gas auger it cuts like butter. lol

Its nice to have one on the ice at all times. Just walk out and your ready to go. You can use the new one when you hit new lakes. Its the best of both worlds.
Can you leave one on the ice in ohio? do you need a permit?
