trekked to the foot with my bud and launched from waterloo . at first on the way out the crust was on the top of the snow slop ? ice, made the drag ok, and there was about 5-6 hard ice and 3 slop ...had to zig zag out dodging whirlpools at old holes. set up towards the isle in 11ft .. got 1 pencil perch on gold tungsten n waxie. and 1 gill.. had fish under us but they wouldn't even chase. THEN it started raining and kept rainin, oh yeah almost forgot abot the fog, couldn't see the islands. we were the only ones on the lake . some guy came by and drilled close and said hey is the water in your holes gushing in ? said no and he scramed..lol...so it keeps raining and rainin, no more fish even..so we pack it in and now theres slush, water on top and the water is goin down them like a toilet flush lol..after being on nimi in the rain the day before its just a deal breaker. called it a day , wet, cold, the end

well folks hit c-6 about 930 launched and headed towards the isles stopped half way and started drillin and lookin. must have drilled 20 holes all the way up close to the island in 7 ft. tungsten and maggots , vis was only 2-3 ft , ice was at least 8 all over . caught perch in most holes on bott , and lost 2 BIG fish under the hole I would guess cats by the fact my tip was buried and didn't want to come in and then pink you feel the hook pop ..most active fish were at 17 to 24 ft and wanted a real vigerous jig and then sink slightly and lift ..lots of people out today a few guys had perch closer to shore and a couple of guys I bumped into in the parking lot had a nice bass they got.. the rain drove me off and made dragin a b....ch

hit my little gill hole about noon. the edges were fine and the ice is still 6-7 , the water was dirty vis about 3 ft . I settled in 14 ft and set up shed. fish were really active and I wound up with about 100 gills ( all got tossed back) and a nice bass . fast jigging was the trick with a little steady twitch,, ha ha tungsten and waxy. couldn't keep 2 rods in just too busy. no perch or craps . funny same spot a few days ago was lock jaw city. ran out of bait about 4 so I missed the crappy bite I think.

well friends hit up a small lake with my buds sun. since I fished this lake last week I really expected to see thicker ice with those frigid temps, but the opposite was true. there is snow cover on the ice maybe 3 inches and the ice was shrinking in thickness. when I drilled first hole I was surprised too see only 4 -5, it was thinner than before, and there were some semi wet soft spots in places. now we know the snow insulates the ice and retards its growth but crap its evaporating. so don't fall into the illusion that its super cold and you think there should be good ice but not ....just my observation be careful it may not be what it seems.......

since we are between open water and ice I thought I would take a sec and say what great fishing erie is and will be for a few years to come. the eye fishing has been great, although the perch are on the down low and you don't see the large fleets of boats pulling doubles anymore. but the lake changes every year and we change with it or ya don't do so well. but everyone , its time to get up there sometime yes you ...either off the beach, or in a boat. if your seasoned up there you know what I'm saying, but if you want some new adventures try and get up there sometime. the eye fishing is strong and getting better. the trout are on also .. we threw hundreds of eyes back this and last year, also trolling, jigging, casting from shore its ON.. wouldn't you like to catch a 27 lb laker, or a 14lb eye, or 12 + STEEL ? ...
