I drove through the 79 boat ramp lot on my way home this evening. There were people out from Fairfield Beach all the way to the marsh. TONS of open water on the north shore though. :( Be careful everyone.

Shanty Help / Re: What Shanty do you like?
« on: December 28, 2010, 06:48:32 PM »
I currently have a Clam Fish Trap Guide. I like the overall comfort when sitting in the shanty. The sled has room for all of my gear to be stored in it. I can place my rods in the under seat storage and they stay pretty safe. I do not care for the access to enter and exit. The shanty is as others have said is heavy. I made a set of conduit runners for mine and it pulls very easy now. I am willing to part with this shanty at this time.

I plan on purchasing a Shapell DX4000 in the future. There is a ton of room in this model. The only thing that I do not like so far is the fact that you will fish facing who ever is in the shanty with you. May not be as bad as I think though.

Clear Fork Reservoir / Re: Clear Fork

I grew up there but moved away back in 2000. Charles Mill is good for pan fish. Pleasant Hill is good down by the dam if the ice is good. My favorite place up close to there was Shelby Res. I heard they stopped letting people ice fish it though. The reservoir's over in Bucyrus can be awesome for perch. I have saw some absolute huge fish caught in them. I see that they allow ice fishing at Willard Res. now. That would be a good place to go to try for perch and walleye.

Went out this morning. I was set up just north east of the island that you pass on the way out to the marsh. I only ended up with 3 gills. Fished from just before day light until noon. Thought for sure that the eyes would slam my tip ups with the way the wind was jigging them today.

I grew up within a few minutes from the lake. It is an awesome fishery to say the least. Ice fishing at the lake has always been prohibited though.  :'(
