A fond memory
« on: January 17, 2012, 02:59:52 PM »

The ice was fleeting, and certainly not for the faint-hearted. CRV, Firefish, WalleyeGuy and myself did make it out for a few hours yesterday. Pretty good action, though not many big fish were taken for the number of fish pulled through the ice.
Lots of fun though, and we got to drill some holes.
Ice was deteriorating fast and we got out while the fish were still biting.
Looks like we won't be out again until February.

The areas that we traditionally fish for Eyes haven't had good enough ice yet. The closest areas to where the ice had been safe was North Fork. This is adjacent to the area we were fishing. It did not look good when we were there, and everyone was fishing the main lake side.

For me the best Eye fishing is at Moundwood at the end of the channel, or at Blackhawk when they are out on the open water beyond the channel mouth.

I did the polar bear club all by accident, but I was fully clothed and touched bottom 9' down, not a fun feeling. Plus there was nobody around to pull my butt up, learned the hard way on ice safety!
