Fished the point west of Yacht club.. the same area everyone usually fishes. Fished with a couple friends of mine who havent made it out yet to atwood. We fished from around 150 to 5pm.. Everyone seemed to be packin it in for the day im assuming they were there since morning. talked to a few guys that said they couldnt get em to hit a minnow and some guys said they couldnt get a fish to bite in over an hr and half. We fished mainly from 8 to 11fow. between the 3 of us our gloves were solid ice from handling so many fish. it was up and down for the most part. My buddys were using waxworms on bigger style attracter pimples with drop single hooks. Green in color. they got some really nice gills 8 to 9n half inchs. and of course the 6 to 8 inch crappies. Only managed one keeper crappie during that time between the 3 of us.. and plenty of white bass. I fished white and glow soft plastic tails on white and glow jigs. fishing with 3lb test made it hard when the white bass came in. had a few break offs. but kept steady with little crappie and gills. Gills seemed to be a ft off bottom to bottom and the same with whitebass. occasionally a few high would chase in a bumch of shad and i would pick a few then. crappies were of course suspended most of the time. Coming in schools it was up and down for the most part the whole time. until my hands got cold then i would just relax a few. Ice was everybit around 8 inchs? it was good clear solid ice as well. I dont think a day warm up is going to hurt this lake as good as the ice looks. Could be wrong but treat no ice as "safe ice" Morning bite to afternoon seems to be better. Sorry no pics as i didnt keep any fish gave them to the guys i was fishing with but we ended up with 25 keeper gills and 4 whitebass and 1 keeper crappie

Sorry for the late post.. Just havent had a chance to get on the computer. Been doing alright on the eyes for the past few days... plenty of shorts to keep ya busy through the day.. small windows of feeding time at dawn and dusk seem to be the time to capatalize if your going to get em. You have to be ready. sometimes it may only last a half hour or more. but that time is usually hott! Ive been throwing back the 15 to 15 n half inch fish.. to grow another day  and keeping the 16s and up. I noticed the shad are changing colors and it is very important to keep an eye on the shad.. that will give you a heads up on what color might be the ticket. you may see them swimming in your hole. One color might be good one day but another the next important to keep up with the hatch and clarity plays an important role as well. i believe MY OWN OPINION.. natural colors in good visibility water 0-18 inchs or more and your hott colors for stand or muddy waters. It has worked alright for me following that guidline.. Im not pulling limits of keepers but a few fish a day. and of course shorts. But plenty of lost fish have me wondering :-) If you have a flasher unit.. Marcum or vex.. ive noticed that if the shad are present.. there usually is walleye near. Not always the case.. The weather and Barometric pressure is another tool i use. sometime when its lower than norm or steady they will hug the bottom more. sometimes you wont even mark a fish and bang your bringin one up. Quite a few times ive pulled them up with mud on their bodies.. Again just another tool to add to your list of stuff to remember when your targeting Berlin eyes.

Eyelander.. start shallow wherever you go.and if you dont get any takers move deeper. . they can be anywhere from 12 to 22fow.. most guys dont fish any more than 12 to 18. shallow to deep breaks on just about any flat or point holds fish. Just a matter of gettin a feeding school. Or a few singles..The "Roadbed" is a popular spot. just north of it you'll see a pack of guys you can usually talk to just about any of the guys out there and they'll give you a heads up on how the bite has been and what might be working that day or the day before.. Reservoir fishing is tuff. Especially on berlin their here today gone tomorrow. Hardly ever is there a feeding school in a particular spot for more than 3 days. Thats my own personal experience. But there are some nice walleyes there. A couple 10lbers were caught last yr north of 224 around the road bed. Vibees are your popular go to baits. and 95% of the time thats what i fish with.3/16 to 3/8.. different vibration hones in each size sometime a different pitch will trigger em to fire. Other baits are your jiggn raps and jiggn shad raps..these have turned into being popular fish catchers as well.

Dave, would love for you central boys to come up and hit Berlin w us. Maybe we can do a walleye trip for saugeye trip trade?? Been killin me with your guys's reports down there on buckeye and indian. Warm up coming on saturday. not sure what the runoff is gonna do to the edges. especially on berlin. And yes im laid off and off during the week. Parking lots are kept up with for the most part. Chuck at A&C takes care of em if they dont get hit by the county or state. I have a rear wheel drive truck and i dont have any problems. Most of the parking access areas are flat.. I'm gonna have to find someone that is able to download the Adobe reader or already has it on their computer mine isnt able to. But if i get around to finding someone with a printer adn adobe ill go ahead and print out a few forms.

Hey guys.. new to site.. Mainly fish Atwood..Berlin.. and mosquito.. mainly target walleye but will switch to crappie n other panfish to give my vibee jiggn arm a rest. haha.. would like to try one of these southern ohio lakes for saugeyes. Dont know too much about the ice bite on saugeyes. Im assuming close to the same tatics as walleye.. vibees and raps? Minnow heads or tails for a bit of scent.. Anyways i plan on making a trip down there.. I'm around 20 min south of Canton. So its goin to be a bit of a trip. Curious if anyone has any advice on tatics. Not looking for a spot just some tips to help me get started not expecting much my 1st time out on a new lake. but any advice would help. How far of a walk is it to fish? been hearing a lot about sleds and quads. New to me. only experienced that on erie. So if anyone has any input i would greatly appreciate it. More than willing to help anyone on any lake that im familiar with as well. I can put ya on fish and give ya some of the best advice on the lakes i mentioned above.

Fished the roadbed from sunrise to around 930.. rolled 3 in 20fow.. i fished vibees tight to bottom. it was def slow didnt see any fish caught.. So decided to make a move.. I fished the east shoreline humps around a 1000 yrds north of Less's on the north side of 224..in 15fow for the remainder of the day.. I rolled a couple as soon as i got there and lost im guessing around a 7 lber at the hole just a absolute pig. couldnt get her head to come up through the hole she made a few runs back down after seeing daylight and my vibee hooked the bottom of the ice and that was all she wrote.. she came off i ended up with a wet arm for the rest of the day.. Ended up turning on big time in the evening. the last 2 hours of light was great. Caught and released around 15 shorts.. and ended up with 2 one at 18 and one at 16. rolled at least 20 fish in the last hour or so of light.. i fished 3/16 to 3/8 vibees bigger fish came on the bigger profile vibee 1/4s and 3/8s hot colors today were firetiger.. yellow tiger..gold tiger..solid gold and blue glitter all picked up fish. Short hops from 6 to 12 inchs seem to be the ticket.. fish were in the mudd.. tight to the ground. took a lil ticing to get em up to fire.  Ice was around 3 inchs. closer to 3 than 2. some spots with snow on the ice is thinner. so be careful if you venture out and stay clear of the spring holes. their hard to see but i noticed they were wet on my way back in.

fished berlin on 12 20... met apex predator there..very nice guys and knowledgeable..fished the spots he mentioned and ended up at the roadbed.. just north of it a few hundred yrds... managed 2 shorts 1 around 9 inchs and one around 12 inchs.. and rolled 6.. also snagged a big shad around 10 inchs. just couldnt get em to fire.. most of the action i had with the shorts and rolled fish seemed to be between 130 and 330..I didnt chart much after 330 and the fishing slowed i mainly fished in 20fow. I switched colors and sizes of vibees constantly one fish on a gold 3/16 and 1 on a firetiger 3/16.. ice was very thin.. closer to 2 inchs then 3 inchs.. clear ice but thin.. use every safety precaution you can if you decide to venture out anywhere sloe to main river channel.. Life jackets..spikes for boots.. and hand spikes.. rope and take a buddy. dont be afraid to ask someone how thick the ice is.. and stay on the trail.. and a lil something at berlin that ive noticed is everyone leaves at the same time after the evening bite... its not safe to be out there at night and especially by yourself. good luck everyone.

Fished the yacht club area from 945 to 2pm. fished mainly in 10 fow.. I used soft plastic squiggly tails "Fiscas" with a 3mm tungston jig head.. got 23 keepers over 9 of course with around 50 at leaast! throwbacks.. caught a few gills and whitebass and rockbass as well.. white and glow in the dark tails on glow jig worked great. schools were moving in quick and managed to get em while they were there.. and picked a few singles floating around.. bigger fish seemed to in water colum 5ft up from bottom. crusin through i got a few 10s and 11s did get one 12 and lost a couple at the hole that were keepers. ICE was crackin and popping.. id imagine their still letting water out..noticedsome different shore ice popped up on bank on way out. Ice was around 6 or 7 inchs

Atwood / Atwood Lake Ice Report
« on: December 15, 2010, 04:11:13 PM »
Ice is locked up at the community hole out in front of the point.. "yacht club" area. Ice was 2 to 4 inchs depending where i drilled. STAY AWAY from the channels. its very thin!. I was prepared to go in wearing my neoprene waders and a life jacket and my spikes along with my spud bar. even after finding what seemed to be around 3 inchs of clear ice i kept all my safety gear on. I ended up catching around 25 crappie from 1245 to 230. only 1 keeper at 11 inchs and plenty of 5 to 6 inch crappies.. one was around 8 inchs.. I also caught 2 channel cats over 15 inchs and 2 white bass lots of shad were in the area. also had one heavy fish snap my line 2 ft from the hole.. assuming it was a big cat. had my hands not got cold i would have taken more pictures and better ones at that. I would advise anyone who is inexperienced with ice fishing or with the lake to take a partner. and if the ice doesnt look good its not good. use caution with early ice. I fished in 11fow.. most of the active fish were in the column from 5 to 10. Minnows and waxworms will do the trick. i used gold and chartruese colors today since the water was stained (normal for atwood).
