Ok..thanks wis2ohio...

I just read that thread. I still have some questions, so I'll just post them here.

Panfish - (crappie, gills, perch) white bass? Rock bass?

what is the distance rule between partners?

Can partners be in separate shanties?

Is this weight or length for your best 5? Assuming weight here, and a follow up question would be the rule on frozen fish.

Thanks for any info on my questions. I'm sure some if not most of these would be answered once I see or find the rule sheet. Thanks again, hoping to make all 3 if nature let's us.

Is there a complete rules page up? I'm probably blind and hungover right now but I'm not seeing it. Thanks.

Iced over with some areas up to 5", better ice off the shore. Ramp area looks sketchy yet, but down the bank is accessible. I'd assume oberlin and Willard are on the same pace as well.

Even tho this lake has gone downhill, I'll be making my yearly trip to see if anything has changed, doubt it.

Buckeye lake / Is this COLD we are having right now NOT making ice?
« on: January 09, 2015, 09:03:26 PM »
Ok Ice Vets...... I know the snow insulation is bad at the moment, and they're calling for more snow Sun. But, with 2" of clear ice, 1" of slush, and 2" of snow on top, what are we to expect by mid day Sunday?

Maybe a half inch more of good ice with a harder overall base? 3"- 4"  ??? >:( >:(

General Discussion / Re: Lake LaSuAn is a GO!!!
« on: November 27, 2014, 10:56:52 AM »
Just received an copy of the news release from ODNR: Lake LaSuAn will be open for icefishing this winter.

Season will run from Dec 19 through Feb 16th.. No reservations needed. Fishing will be allowed Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and hours are from sunrise to sunset. The lake will closed to fishing at all other times. NO OTHER LAKES OR PONDS in the wildlife area will be open to fishing and anglers must park in the designated parking space near the old Fish Check Station.

The sunfish daily bag limit is 25 fish daily, with no more than 5 fish being 8 inches or larger. Largemouth bass: there is an 18 inch minimum length limit with a 5 fish daily bag limit and channel catfish have a 2 fish daily bag limit...

Is everyone ready????? ;D

Anymore rules? Lol

Any ice left?  I'd like to drill a hole tomm if anyone has any ideas.

After several days over 45 and rain, there will be zero ice anywhere. You have a few weeks before even considering drilling a hole in ice.

Yeah, this tells me everything I need to know about what's in store for us this winter. All 50 states in a freeze tonight. I'm not even going to pay attention to the forecast going forward. I'm just going to wake everyone up here in a bit as I crawl up in the attic. Its time to start unpacking the ice gear. Lol.

Perch have been present the last 30 years there. They actually were a lot bigger long ago. They have infested the unground right now. I have easily drilled 300 holes there this year. I've fished the entire lake with a few friends over this ice season. This was the worst year ever, period. 90% of the holes you drill will be loaded with tiny perch. We caught 1-11" perch this season. No crappie over 8". And not many gills at all. Most gills have black spots all over them, it's been increasingly getting worse. The grass in the lake changed early last year, and things have gone downhill. We did catch a big pike, a big cat, a few bass, hundreds of tiny perch and a good handful of gills, but the lake has taken a beating from fisherman and whoever or whatever it was that screwed with the grass in that lake. The north end used to have deep water weed beds, not any longer, spent hours with the camera underwater and it just doesn't exist up north. The perch will not grow the way you think they would. The lake is on the decline instead of the other way. I've watched this lake for going on 30 years, before the internet, this place was a jewel of jewels. Now it's just another public declining water hole. The internet works both ways, some good some bad, this just happens to be the bad. good luck.

I'm not getting off the ice tomorrow until one comes through that hole. But, thanks for the 2 above posts. Don't need a quad today, just an ice sail. ;D  the next two days look good, wind supposed to die off later tonight.

Yeah the wind is nasty. If your new to ice fishing in the wind it can be comical, dangerous, frustrating, annoying, and on and on and on. >:(    On another note, I have to hand it to you, you are truly a die hard ice fisherman. You are taking full advantage of a great ice year. Props to you for your dedication.

I have been hunting crappie locally, been getting a few, mainly small. Those big boys have been hiding from my baits good this season, but it's not over yet.

Good report

Did you ever make it out? I'm thinking of a night trip Saturday evening. Anyone else have the latest ice conditions. Have they grown in size? ;D I'm going to find out I guess. Lots of crappie lakes have been slow or the size has been small. Been a tough year all around in this shanty.

Trying again in the morning, (fri). At first was going to head out of CSP, but 3 times now I've come back empty, maybe the 4th try will work, but I'm thinking I'd like to try elsewhere. It's funny, I read reports of guys catching a limit in 40 minutes with no bait, and getting there late. I read 70 fish days between a group. I just have to chuckle, I walked over 15 miles (3 days) without a fish and left the house at 4am and arrived back after 8 pm. Then I read a guy goes out 3 weekends in a row and limits walking out 1.5. This is my final shot at this Erie walleye ice hunt, I will end on this note, I am going to put a hurting on those eyes one day on soft water since I can't get it done on the hard stuff. Too much work without a quad or snowmobile, but fun........gl in these last couple weeks.
