Title: Sled runners
Post by: 30inthabucket on December 01, 2015, 07:29:05 PM
Ok I have a question. Bought the eskimo quickflip. I will be pulling it by hand.  Should I get the runner kit for it or is it not necessary? Any cheaper options?

Definitely get some kind of runner kit, just will help with the wear and tear of the sled.
I use puck board that I got from the local hockey arena.
I posted some pics back a couple years on the ones I put on my Scout. I think it is under inventions.

You'll definitely want some protection of some sort. If not you'll wear a hole in the bottom of your sled, even pulling by hand.

Get the Runner Kit or make your own, but definitely get'em on your shanty.

I had some made up from Universal Plastics in N. Canton a few years back.,

I got two used skis and built it up off the ground about 4".  That's all you need to do.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and ordered the eskimo kit. No hockey rinks near me I know of and it was about the same price to just order the plastic strips. Unfortunately it seems I should have installed the runners before I put the rest together but I'm sure I'll manage.

I just got a runner kit for my Otter Sport Sled. They don't make a kit specifically for the sled so I'll be adapting the runners to fit....

Did you have any issues fitting them?

Yes Sir, ordered last night & found a good tip from a youtube video
use a slightly smaller 5/32 bit to drill your pilot holes so that the screw will hold tight while you tighten the nuts.https://youtu.be/t4VVrYfJa68 (https://youtu.be/t4VVrYfJa68)

When you do the install make sure you silicone both sides of the nut and bolt.   Your shanty will never leak if the snow or ice melts. I didn't do that on my first shanty and had a leaky tub,but my last 2 have been dry as a bone even with 1 or 2 inches of water on the ice.

I saw the same video. I'll watch it again before I install the runners. The challenge I see is their not being profiled slots to fit the runners in like on the other Otter Sleds. I'll portably use a temporary wood spacer to get the runners parallel.
