Post by: deerslayern on February 28, 2013, 11:41:15 AM
Heres a good one. Lets see which species is most popular among us icers.
Myself I prefer gills. Easy to target and can have alot on the ice in no time.

As much as I love bull gills, the crappie are my favorite.

I really shouldn't say this since there are jokes-a-plenty about it, but, there's no catfish option.  It seems the whiskered wonders are some of our members favorite fish!!  ;D

Sorry for not puttn Mr.Wiskers on the ballot it totally slippd my mind. 2 yrs ago was the first time I caught a catfish through the ice. I tell u what that was a great dinner when I got home. My home town res is loaded. Time to start thinning down even though the DNR keeps stockn the place (bout every other or every third year) with them. Im not exactly sure their goal is , no one fifhes for them here

I think ur rite perch and walleye r a more important factor than catfish r. Im gonna try to talk to the dnr and c what they have to say and c if they can change the way their stock program is. I'll let u all know what I come up with.

I'm a panfish guy and target all different panfish but if the lake has perch that is my number 1 target. I spend more time looking for perch then anything else. My #2 is gills then crappie. I like fishing for walleye but they are the thorn in my side. I can never catch them on purpose but end up with them on accident. I've caught more panfish on my walleye lures then walleye and got more walleye on panfish jigs the walleye lures. Its a crazy underwater world down there. Maybe someday one of you walleye guys can show me how its done and teach me some tricks of the trade. It doesn't matter how many videos I watch or articles I read and lures I buy I just can't seem to catch them on purpose. Lol

Catching walleye or saugeye on our highly  pressured inland resevoirs is more 60% luck and 40%  experience,i think being at the right place at the right time and your presentation gets near one,and you can always join me and luvstophish in open water or ice,we are not pros but have alot of fun and manage to stringer up some tastey toothers now and then ,pm me if you are ever interested ;D

I would love to meet up and fish with you guys and learn a few new tricks. I will defenitly be taking you up on your offer as soon as we get good ice. When the water is soft its time to work. I normally work 7 days and 60-100 hours a week when the weather is good so it will most likely have to be an ice fishing day.

The fish biologist at ODNR said they stock catfish every 3 yrs cause most either get eatn or die and their stocked at a size of 8 to 10in in length. the eyes and perch get stocked the way they do because of how long it takes to reach maturity and cost.
