Indian Lake / 3-2 slow day
« on: March 02, 2015, 06:35:24 PM »
Fishing was slow today,  only got 2 crappies and 2 small gills. Started at pony island and walked to north fork. Needless to say I was best from trudging through all that snow with all of my gear. On a good note,  I caught my biggest crappie ever at just over 14". I know that size is common but I haven't landed one that size. I know i lost a couple through holes this year that were really nice. I caught it on a chartreuse jig with red spikes. This morning was the first time I've ever bought them so I guess I got lucky.

What side of the lake were you on? I've caught some slabs this year but not in numbers. Calling for high winds tomorrow so I'll be fishing away from that. I totally understand if you don't want to say where you were on the lake.

That's what I've figured out this year also. If I'm lucky enough to find fish right away then that's where I'll stay. The afternoon bite seems to be better than the morning bite lately. They've been shutting down by 10am. Didn't get out till around 1 yesterday and I never had more than a 10 minute dry spell until I left at 530 due to the wind.

Grand Lake has not been good this year. I doubt I'll go back until the ice melts. Been having too good of luck at Indian to fish elsewhere.

Anywhere around long island has been producing. Not a lot of crappies but the ones I've caught have been 11 or bigger. Green or chartreuse and white/chartreuse has been good. Bite was slow today due to the front.

Grand Lake sucked every time i went there this year which is why I've been going to Indian Lake. Crappies are running on the large side at Indian. Last year i fished predominantly grand lake and started there this year with not much luck. Fish seem to be wherever i drill holes at Indian. I'll fish grand lake after ice for damn sure.

I caught fish on all colors yesterday but they were hitting a chartreuse ant jig the best. Today they were hitting a white/chartreuse jig but i caught them on different colors as well. Only one crappie today but it was a nice one.

I did really well back in Lucy's pond early. Bite stopped around 10. Few nice crappie and caught probably 40 gills. I was fishing near the drop off in the channel with wax worms. Chartreuse ice ant jig caught the most. Had something real big on. It looked like around a 4lb saugeye but I didn't get it up out of the hole.

Indian Lake / Good day on the ice
« on: January 26, 2015, 07:11:44 PM »
Had a great day on the ice today for panfish. Got to help put someone on some fish that drove quite a ways to get up here for their first time on the lake. Bunch of dinks but we kept around 30. Heading to Lake St. Clair bright and early for perch.

Ice is fine. Follow the herd. Drive around the lake until you see a bunch of people. Don't be afraid to wait the fish out. I was out the other day for about 5 hours and stayed in the same 3 holes. A lot of guys drilled and moved and drilled some more and eventually came close to us. Caught some nice gills and crappies but most people were trying for saugeyes. There are several places to get bait but I normally go to lakeside pro bass. Good luck! I won't be out until at least Monday.

Ice it's a good 8 inches in most spots I've drilled. Plenty safe.

Grand Lake St. Marys / report 1-18

Gills are biting in the deeper parts of the channels. Hitting everything I throw down there, even a large jigging spoon. Not much size but they're aggressive and it's enough to keep me busy. Anything tipped with a wax worm is working. I fished Harmon's.

I'll post results tomorrow for whatever and wherever I fish. I'm always more than willing to give a report when I can. Good luck fishing!

I was wanting to give Coldwater Creek walleyes a try this week but have never ice fished over there. Any reports yet? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.
