Ice Safety!!! / another thing to think about
« on: January 15, 2011, 11:24:36 AM »
a friend of mine had a fitting leak on propane heater after changing out tanks and it exploded on him. he is in hospital with burns over most of his body.

must remember to keep spare tanks warm and make sure no ice has formed around fittings of both tanks and units being used. ice chrystals form on necks of tanks when they are cold as you hook up a new tank. these chrystals cause propane to leak out around fittings.

a couple of years ago my son-in-law, his dad and i were out chasing crappy. one of the lanterns ran out of propane. the s-i-l change tanks and he ended up frost biting his hand when the tank wouldn't seal up and the tank leaked onto his hand.

Ice Safety!!! / getting chilled
« on: January 12, 2011, 12:04:39 AM »
wouldn't think that sticking your hand into the water to grab something that was falling in would chill you to the point of hurting you. drop cell phone today into hole reach in a grab it--a great save-- but a couple of minutes later i had to leave because my hands started to cramp up and began to hurt really bad.
the sudden plung into the ice water with the hand caused the muscles to ball up/knot up and tear in the back of my left hand. the hand is swelled and black and blue.
the doc says that is what causes heart attacks when someone suddenly gets wet with cold water and it does have to be freezing water.

Ice Safety!!! / Re: cover that auger!
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:58:33 PM »
i can relate to this one too........but it was in the back of the truck and the cover had fallen off. had went fishing in the morning and that afternoon went bird hunting with my irish setter. some time during the ride home after hunting the dog had step on the auger and cut the pad of the foot.....very deep and the full length.

Ice Safety!!! / Re: ice fishings greatest danger
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:55:07 PM »
i'm just getting back to work from a fall and landing on my back and ringing my bell. the thing is thou i broke my back-shoulder blade-- and it was a flat surface that i landed on--like ice would be. the doc told me that this type of break is very common with this type of fall.
