Shanty Help / Re: Never lets me down

That's a good idea. I watched a video on youtube the other day. Some guys up in Canada were building a shanty, and they made the door look like a giant bottle of Molson Canadian. I don't suppose you could mistake that. Maybe in Canada but definitely not around here.

Great catch That is fun when they turn on like that. I fish a farm pond and find that they really turn on right before dark. Did you get any Crappie?

No crappie David. Unfortunatley there are no crappie in this pond. I've kinda been talking to the guy about maybe stocking some this spring though.

I agree David, we actually just took the shanty off the ice on new years eve. I'm already looking forward to setting it back up.

It's a big farm pond outside of Wooster. I meant to put that in the message but i forgot. This is the best we've done so far. It's been kinda slow up until last night.

Ice Gear for Sale / Frabill for sale of trade for Vexilar
« on: December 23, 2010, 12:20:27 PM »
I have a big Frabill four man shanty that I rarely use. Some mice got into it over the summer and chewed some holes in it. I think they can be repaired with some new fabric and fabric adhesive. Other than the holes, its a good, sturdy shanty. I paid $400.00 for it a couple of years ago. I don't have any pictures of it right now because it's at a friends house about an hour away, but if you are interested in a shanty that size, PM me and I will go and get some pictures for you. I would like to still get around $300.00 for it because it is still a nice shanty, but I understand a shanty with holes chewed in it are kind of a turn off. I would also consider trading for a Vexilar FL-8 in decent condition.

Shanty Help / Never lets me down

My brother and I got this old shanty from a friend of ours, who pulled it out of some guys garbage in North Royalton about seven years ago. Since the day we acquired it, we've been catching fish in it ever since. Two years ago I felt the need to upgrade and bought a huge Frabill four man shanty. My brother and I even considered throwing the old shanty away. After much consideration, and a few sleepless nights, we decided we couldn't bring ourselves to retire her. Since then I've used the new Frabill a grand total of four times, and our "old faithful" stays on the ice just as long as we're able to walk out on it without going through. Like a boy's first fort, the old shanty just has a cozy feel to it that I'll never get from a store bought shanty. I think were going to give the old girl a face lift this summer, she definitely deserves it! These are some pictures of my brother and the shanty we've called home for so many years. I will post pictures of us remodeling it this summer.

No I didn't, I guess i didn't know about it. I'll have to do that with the next batch I catch. I caught a cold the other day so I'm out of commision for a day of two, but I hope to be back on the ice by christmas day. Thanks David, I'll look into the tournament.

That sounds like a great time. Indian Lake is a pretty good haul for me, but I'll definitely try to make it if you get a date set.

I've caught quite a few of those in farm ponds. They're a really pretty looking fish, and excellent fighters! They don't taste too bad either.
