Looking to head out either Sat or Sunday and wondered how the ice was in channels and on the main lake
Heard from a buddy the crappies were/been hitting good at the sailboat docks channel over the last weekend.

Ice lover, nice to meet you, I was the other guy helping the two new guys, I don't think there on this board ( yet) but they were most appreciative of your help!
Funny I sort of work with your partner Butch..Small world
We got a couple of keeper crappies and about a dozen shorties and a ton of gills, pink and white ice jigs with spikes and waxies accounted for most of our fish, all near bottom, we were not anywhere near any cover

we were out on 4" today and down in Dayton area that's dam good ice, as we don't get it for long, ( IE poured all day today almost 2" in my rain gauge) now need it to refreeze all over again so I can get back on later in the week.
Our benefit was we didn't have any snow on top of it, rare we have better ice then most of the state

Ok I fished about 2.5 hrs this morning with my buddy Scott on my pond, had a decent day with a nice mixed bag but no real picture fish. Ice was a solid 4" everywhere with no snow except on the very edges.
between us got about 25 gills with about 7-8 being nice keepers from 7-8" and then 2 small channel cats and 6 black crappies but they were all in the 8" range and a 8" Yellow Perch
Fish came on everything from a Perch Jigging Rap to ice jigs with either waxies or spikes on them. most gills and cats from 10 FOW while the crappies and perch all came from 5+ FOW near brush.
Looking forward to later this week!!!

yes a tough bite that's for sure I figure I had 8 bites in 6 hrs, never even marked a fish the first 2+ hrs and moved 4 times before I found a good spot where a fish would come through every 20-30 minutes, LOL
FWIW, spikes behind a green and white Ice jig seemed to work a little bit for the suspended fish.
CRV, Daves a tough one to beat when he is at his spot and on his game...He is the master on jigging the big stuff and while he gets fewer fish, they are always quality!

Not really.. but fished with my buddy Scott yesterday from 2:30-5:30pm in the SE corner of the lake, My buddy has a place on a channel back there, drilled probably 25 holes and just keept moving till we found em, and finally in one hole landed about 26-27 gills and 21 were keepers, and not barely keepers, real solid keepers. 7-8.25" so it worked out ok, but crappies were not to be found anywhere? our honey hole was the deepest spot in the channel, just at 5 FOW, fished wood, deeper wood, and 5-6 wood structures we have placed around my buddies place, not a bite.... fish were on the bottom in the deepest part, right in the center of the channel. all fish on spikes and waxies on all sorts of colors of rocker and teardrop jigs. bite was good too. Thinking of hitting it again tomorrow around noon, anyone available? send me a PM or call 937-974-2908 Mark ( Salmonid)
