Lake Erie / Re: Any ice?
« on: January 21, 2016, 12:46:09 AM »
Snowmobile went in and guy made it back safely. Not sure why someone would be out on the thin ice with a machine, but thankfully he is safe. I heard there was only 3" of ice yesterday.

North vs. South / Re: North vs south over nite lodging

Slabs layer,
Your spot on about Linda at causeway always taking care of IFO. It only makes sense to have the weigh in/ check in there. There is always a great selection of ice lures and equipment there. Thank you for all the work you do for IFO and putting together tourneys.

Thanks Slabslayer, sounds good, I would like to see it held on the South side if not the entire lake. If it's just a IFO thing I believe we can trust our guys to play fair. The North side can be some tough fishing especially for walleye. But no matter what side the tourney is held, I would come fish and help out.

It's not looking good for early ice on Erie, so I would like to get in on some Mosquito action. Will this be a walleye tourney? What part of the lake can be fished? Please fill me in on some of the details. Thanks.

Is there gonna be a tourney on Dec 26th? I'd like to come down and meet some of the guys and get a lesson or two.

General Discussion / Re: Erie eye rods

For years I have used the St.Croix premier 28" medium light. I rarely fish with baits over a 1/2 oz. I had Stuart Manning at Ace Custom Rods make me 6- 28" medium rods and a 36" medium to my specs and they are not a real heavy medium. His 28" rods are right at $60 and I highly recommend him to make you a custom rod for Erie. I find that I have to downsize when it's a tough bite and these rods will fish a # 3 jig rap and not loose any feel and have plenty of back bone for solid hook sets , 10# braid to about 2 feet of 10# flauro Carbon connected with a power swivel is my line set up. The no stretch in the braid also helps to sink hooks deeper into the super hard mouths of Erie's monster eyes.

Thank you Green Peas, I usually start at Catwaba early ice but will fish where ever the best bite may be at the time. By the end of the season it's typically best around Crane Creek. Weekends dates are filling fast, if your looking to get out on a weekend, I would advise you to reserve a day soon. Thanks again.

Thanks Jonny, icing those monster eyes is a passion of mine as is ice fishing in general. Sharing this passion with others is what makes ice fisherman a special breed.
