Mogadore Reservoir / 12-27-10
« on: December 27, 2010, 09:57:27 PM »
Fished east of congress lake rd. this morning. Caught nothing but dink gills and perch as I had expected to. I remember now why I dont like to fish that part of the lake. Its not that most of the fish you catch are small its that there are some really disrespectful fisherman that fish there. These guys leave piles of small fish all over the ice. If you dont want the fish throw them back. Its not up to us to decide whats best for the lake. That is up to the state to decide. Not only do they leave fish they also leave their trash. Coming off the ice I picked up 2 propane bottles and some other trash. We are all grown men and women and we should act that way. If you brought it on the ice take it back off the ice with you. Mogadore Reservoir is a beautiful place and we need to keep it that way. I dont mean to come off sounding like an A- hole but its getting ridiculous. This is the same reason that some other lakes and ponds are now closed to the public.

WingFoot Lake / 2010 -2011
« on: December 19, 2010, 04:24:34 PM »
I fished most of the day. I was all around the 1st island and the ice was a minimum of 4 1/2 of good clear ice with 1 to 3 inches of white ice on top. The water was crystal clear. In my shanty I could see bottom at 12 ft. I caught 27 crappie the biggest being 13 inches with an over all average of 10 in. Also caught 10 slab gills averaging 9 in. I was surprised that I didn't catch a single dink gill or crappie. The bite was super light. You had to look down your hole and watch them suck in the bait and hook them or they would spit it back out. I was using a size 8 and 12 horizontal jig. The best color for me was black or orange and black. The crappie were only 1 foot of the bottom. Look for the pack of guys in between the islands. That's were there at. I'm headed back out in the morning. Ill be in my blue viking shanty. Stop by and say hi.

General Discussion / Vexilar FL-22 VS. Marcum LX-5
« on: November 16, 2010, 11:42:31 PM »
I've been debating between the fl-22 and the lx-5. I've read that the 22 only goes to 60 ft. But how often do we really fish deeper then 60 ft. on ohio inland lakes. the lx-5 has more power and reads deeper. From what I read the target ID is 1/4 in. on the Vex but I cant find out what the target seperation is. Would it be the same? I like the idea of an HD screen on the Vex for a clearer picture. The downside from what I hear is the they are a lot louder then the Marcum. I like to enjoy the peace and quiet when I'm fishing. Is the FL-22 really worth 50 to 100$ more then the LX-5? I've been trying to decided for a month now on what to get and cant decided so I would like to hear from everyone what they think. Thanks

I just got back from florida and was wondering how everyone has been doing. when I left for florida there was still 24 inch of snow on the ground lol. We got a lot of fishing in down there. Anyways where is the bite at now. A friend of mine was at Nimisila last week and limited out on the eyes. Ive never caught them there but he brought them to my house and the one was 26 inchs. They where down by the dam trolling deep divers.
